    He earned it.

    He made a bet and only hurt himself.

    He did not cause pain and suffering to American citizens like our politicians in Washington are doing. They should be in prison.

    Good points Dan makes. The same is true for "Shoeless" Joe Jackson. He played his tail off in the 1919 World Series, and there is no evidence that he helped the Sox throw games. All they had on him was that he knew about the fix; he was simply too dumb to know what to do. Even Ty Cobb (a Hall of Famer with a particularly shady past) said he was one of the best ballplayers ever.
