Is a $35 annual dues increase for the State Bar acceptable?

    Kurt has it right. A $35 increase in dues is about a 16% increase on dues of $224.00/year. That would be one of the largest increases in bar history.

    I have always favored cutting spending first. Raising dues should only be a last resort. There is plenty to cut and, perhaps ask State Bar employees to contribute more. Almost 60% of bar spending goes to employee compensation and benefits. Most lawyers are not making 16% more. They most likely are making 25%-50% less than in 2007.

    I am a Solo Practioner; Why in blazes with an economy like this would the bar even
    consider raising dues; I cannot afford to fix up my building; My clients do not pay me
    half the time & heaven forbid that I send a letter for my fees. Meanwhile I see reports
    that the big Law firms are feasting & making plenty of money. It is not fair to increase
    our burdens of practicing Law; Everytime I turn around I have organizations trying
    to extract more money from me; I cannot compete with the Big Law firms & well
    funded firms on the Internet;
