People, we have biologists for a reason ! Their knowledge, expertise in the field, collected data and suggestions as to the best management practices for the healthy continuation of a species is based on much scientific principle !!! Every ecosystem has a carrying capacity based on food and competition. There are times when numbers have to be reduced for the benefit of all animals. Let scientific knowledge prevail !! Guess what ? I`m a hunter and fisherman. Nobody appreciates the flora and fauna more than us ! We harvest wild game and fish as sport and for sustenance. The millions of dollars we spend on our sport allow people to enjoy the sight of wild animals, fish, clean waterways and the preservation of lands.

when exactly does a species become native? Mute swans have been here for over a hundred years. In the span of time human beings have only been here for slightly longer. ANYTHING THAT THE DNR TRIES TO CONTROL ALWAYS TAKES A TERRIBLE U-TURN. So after they have decimated the mute swans and the canada goose takes over again then what we have a mass killing of the goose? Where does it end? Mother nature takes care of these things, animals either adapt and evolve or die. Only mankind attempts to intervene with tragic results. Leave the swans alone and if you don't like them on your lakes build a swimming pool! There is nothing "Natural" about the department of Natural resources!

Why kill them just because they are 'non-native'? I think if looked deep enough into it that the majority of americans are 'non-native' ?!

Instead of killing the swans because they are a problem, over populated, lets kill the people who continue to pollulate this earth, with their motors boats, ships that leak oil, gas, garbage that people through in the water, using it as a sewer, and the fish and other animals have to live in our mess that we have created, shame on us, to blame the birds, fish, mamuals, and take no responsible for the mess we have made, OH Yea, it's the money, that makes the world go around, not the livings animals that have no vote on voting day!!!! They have just as much right to over populate, as we have done, and in my opinion, we are destroying things, not the animals!. They kill to eat, we kill, for fun, trophies, money or just to see how it feels, we are the ones who need to be CONTROLLED!

There's got to be a better way, like egg collection.

We are the ones that brought them in to compete with the native species and we should use the best means possible to solve the problem. Comparing them to people and thinning people just makes me go ?????

Humans are an invasive species too. Where do you draw the line? Killing isn't humane, nor is it a long term solution--you'll just create a lot of BAD publicity for your town and divide your community! Consult The Humane Society of the U.S. or other humane animal groups to discuss NON LETHAL methods of population control.

an invasive species is just that... invasive. whether a zebra mussel or mute swan. People have to understand that wildlife areas are limited, and the native species should be given preference. Humans add to the problem by feeding wild animals, making them more able to survive and over populate. overpopulation will always lead to an eventual disease outbreak... or worse. remove the invaders, and manage a healthy population.

why does everything humans do ends in blood shed? one can say there are to many humans on this planet. what would the answer be?we have to start learning to live with wildlife, not teach the next generation to get a gun and kill just because there are to many or not native to the region.
