Do you agree with the changes Police Chief McNeill has made to the Cañon City Police Department?

So the judgemental Bondking has sized us up. A typical sexist response to people who KNOW what is going on. So, how often do you and McNeill play poker together? I see the bully mentality is shared by the two of you. I guess facts are not a concern, but using the sex card and hormones is what matters in your opinion. Sharing an opinion is one thing, a personal attack is another. Bondking...you either profit from criminals or maybe you are the Chief and are responding under a pseudonym? Somehow, you are in his back pocket and don't know what you are talking about at all. Either way Bondking...don't be a testosterone driven moron.

So we have Tammy, Rachel, Linda and the Councilman that can't spell all in a twist. Linda thinks someone "from this town" is required. Rachel seems to have a "hick" insecurity that is being exacerbated. The Councilman is sure he is a liar but can't quite spell it out, among other things. All trumpet an investigation as long as it comes to the only factual and fair conclusion; the Chief must go.

A couple of others, all seemingly less hormonally charged by the debate don't quite understand the problem with tough love. Moreover, they think flagrant personal attacks aren't quite evidence of wrong doing and that a fair hearing is what is needed to bring forth the truth.

Very conflicting to watch, hard to assess the veracity of it all, but pretty easy to size up the respondents.

I am a City Council member and I know first hand that Cheif McNeil is a lier. I accused him of that in front of several other City Council members and all he did was talk about how he and his wife have donated to a bunch of charities and his wife is a voluntier at the hospital, but not once did he deny being a lier. I have known several members of the police department both sworn and civilian and I have heard from many of them how McNeil miss treats the employees that don't suck up to him and the public when there are no other witnesses. He has shown that he will retailiate against those who oppose him and that is just wrong. I hope this outside investigator finds the truth about McNeil and the City Administrator, the only person that can, will remove him from the position of Police Cheil permanently. This is my personal opinion and facts and should not be taken as a statement from the City Council.

I agree with "Tammy" a million percent. McNeill has bullied far too many people in this town. I know several personally. He needs to go back to where he came from and let a REAL police officer become chief, some one who is from this town, who knows how to treat the citizens like humans. You can be sure McNeill would retaliate if he knew the names of the people who have spoken out against him. It's time he moves on. We don't need his kind in this town.

    I agree COMPLETELY with Tammy.
So Citizen (if that is your real name) and your concern with BACKBONE...if you knew the facts of both sides of the story, you would have cause to sit back, LISTEN and not judge. Fear of retaliation is a huge issue. If McNeill is retained in his position as chief, how much hell with there be for those who did speak out? Not only is there fear, but a genuine concern that the reputation of the entire police department go unharmed. He targets anyone and everyone with unfounded accusations, harassment and intimidation based not on facts, but on emotion, ego, power trip and out and out paranoia. How could you not see a problem with McNeill considering the overwhelming percentage of employees (both law enforcement and city employees) who have stepped forward and gave their testimony to the auditor? Lies, intimidation, unwarranted internal investigations, the list goes on. Issues backed up by facts that are not only unethical but immoral. Assuming a proper and fair investigation is conducted by the city manager, the facts will be obvious and there will not be a doubt as to the truth. Please do not fool yourselves into believing that McNeill thinks the residents of Canon City are anything other than back wood hicks. As small as Canon City is, most of us know a police officer, or a civilian police employee and you know who they are and what kind of people they are. McNeill has openly said that these people (who are dedicated to our community) are no better than the criminals they try to arrest. Along with all of these issues at hand, and there are plenty more, who in the world could possibly respect "leadership" like this? The citizens of Canon City, city employees, and law enforcement need and deserve a better, more honest and moral leader, and McNeill is definitely not that person.

What changes? The Officers did not like the 12 hour shifts they picked under Chief Shull (but he wouldn't let them go back to 10hr shifts) - Chief McNeill let them go back to the 10hr shifts they liked. The only changes Chief McNeill has made is that he expects his employees to take responsibility for their work, step up and earn the paycheck they take home. Most of the "allegations" in the audit are actually from Shull's time frame and McNeill has been trying to get things straightened out. How many bosses do you know that would work an extra 20+ hrs a week (unpaid) to be out on the street covering for the short shifts due to staffing shortages or supervisors that give their shift vacation without making sure to keep the shift covered? Shull never did. Amazing what the response has been to being expected to take responsibility for your own actions...

Trusting those in authority is critical, when it comes to the safety of our community. However, generalized accusations is irresponsible. If there is a problem with harassment, nonsense tickets, illegal searches, then why aren't there official lawsuits (even one!) filed against the CCPD or the Chief? The City hired this man to do a job. If he his stepping outside of his legal boundaries while doing his job, then appropriate actions should be taken. But the generalized accusations should stop, for the good of Canon City. If there is so much "fear" of retaliation, then show come courage and stand up for what is right in your opinion. I'm sick of people with no backbone, casting stones at others, then citing "fear of retaliation" as their reason for not "coming forward".

I have known Chief McNeill since shortly after he moved to Canon City. I have ridden with him in a patrol car and observed how he treats people. There is no doubt that he is tough, but he is also fair, compassionate, and helpful in his treatment of the citizens of Cañon City. To try him in the Media like has been happening is a travesty and should be stopped. Let’s at least let him tell his side of the story.

McNeill is a man that carries a gun, he has bullied and intimidated his employees, city hall, the business community and the residents. People are not coming forward against him for fear of retaliation, the ones that are coming out do not know the true facts or refuse to believe that the audit is factual. I have seen first hand how McNeill treats people and would be happy to see him relieved of his position. If city council chooses to keep him this town will suffer greatly. Have you ever wondered why McNeill wants to know the names? The retaliation, sexual harassment, nonsense tickets, illegal search and seizure are real, we are just waiting for a costly law suit to be filed against the city, then what?
