Is Bobby Valentine the right choice for the Red Sox?

I don't know what Steve is drinking but he might want to cut himself off soon. Anyway.. anyone who has ever been to Fenway knows it's right in Kenmore square - not the 'ghetto'. Sure, there are the occasional bums and beggars here and there but what big city doesn't have that problem. It's a nice traditional park with a great atmosphere. Bring your kids and don't pay attention to the assinine Yankees fan. Anyway, I digress... Bob Valentine seems like an odd fit to me. The Redsox are not like the Yanks or Dodgers or Rays or Rockies - they have always played the game thier own way and the baseball fans and culture in Boston have been the same for a hundred years. Bobby Valentine is not going to change any of that and the fans will certainly make their feelings known to him very soon unless they start winning - and he will not feel comfortable in that Redsox uniform once that fans speak up. Pedroia and Youkilis are mainstays on the team and proven themselves to be consistently great players over the years. I think they will respect manager Valentine (as they did Francona) once Valentine starts respecting them.

"Bobby is the right guy! Boston is the best baseball town in the country and deserve " player dedication", and Bobby is the man to get it right"!

Have you ever even been to Boston around the stadium? Its like ghetto for miles. crackheads and bums begging outside. I brought my kids to a game once, and will never again. I'm pretty sure the whole time I was there, there was a faint smell of piss also.... Family fun right?....

Boston is no where near the best baseball town in the country. Historic sure, but so is every original park. If anything it would be Yankee's. Then again they have been winning for the whole stretch so you cant really compare the 2. Its like comparing a Ferrari to a Honda accord...

Also Boston fans aren't exactly the sharpest tools in the shed. I guess they are use to telling themselves things as such - which is the only way to deal with with one of the worst teams/venu's ever. Could the curse return! I think Boby V will bring the apocalypse for Boston baseball

Good managers talk face to face to their employees behind closed doors. If your boss had an issue with you and sent it out in a company wide memo before saying anything to you, wouldn't you be upset? Well, that's pretty much what Valentine did. And the fact that it was about Youks' dedication in bizarre (he nearly ended his career playing through a wrist injury)... and for those jumping on Pedroia, he's standing up for a teammate. Maybe we can pretend Valentine did this intentionally as a way to unify the clubhouse, heh...

What second baseman Dustin Pedroia said after Valentine criticized Kevin Youkilis was stunning: “I really don't know what Bobby’s trying to do, but that’s not the way we go about our stuff around here. He’ll figure that out.”

...and there is the problem! The tail shouldn't oughta wag the dog Dusty...you'll figure that out. ;)
