The best thing for Vancouver's Downtown Eastside is . . .

"As if our reputation for wackiness wasn’t bad enough, it sure wasn’t helped by the circus that erupted at Vancouver council Tuesday afternoon when a group of Downtown Eastside activists — make that taxpayer-funded activists — stormed the meeting. They were there to oppose a new condo project in that blighted neighbourhood because, get this, it would disrupt the illegal drug trade."

That is a disturbing fallacy referring to the Globe and Mail article by Wendy Stueck:

As a DEOD resident with the DNC, I am appalled at the myopia of your perspective. Stating that the
DTES "needs to be cleaned up" is an insult to the 70% of DEOD residents who have drug addiction, mental health, disability access, and credibility problems, all because of single-minded news papers like yours. Besides, Hugh Lampkin, President of Vandu, has already stated that he was misquoted and misunderstood by Wendy. Your article is based on lies, stereotypes and unwanted depersonalization of the DTES residents. We demand a public apology. WE occupied city hall for almost two hours, quite peacefully I might add, and we can do that anywhere else we choose, at least according to s. 2 of the Charter. But of course, all you 1 percenters think you own the airwaves. Watch out and ponder that for a moment. Occupy is real. We will not go down with a whimper, but a roar !
