Is it okay to use public embarrassment as discipline for kids?

    absolutely acceptable and effective. 20 years ago or even 30-40 years ago it was a belt on your rear. now thats "child abuse" what better way to get your point across while being "politically correct" and not "beating" your child? so if this isn't ok then really what discipline is? realistically if this story were about a child getting a belt or spanking im sure there would be 100 posts here saying its abuse! welcome to the weaksauce world we now live in. i got spanked as a kid im sure most did. i think 99% of us all turned out just fine!

    This tells me that the parent is probably abusive in some form. No parent, who loves their child, would make their child do this, but would (1) talk to the child, (2) handle the situation by making the child face the person he/she stole from and (3) have the child make restitution (4)plus discipline relating to a child of that age. The child needs to learn that this is the wrong thing to do and not to do it again. What this parent did will only instill in the child rage, anger, revenge, and other problems that will surface sooner or later in this child's life. My heart goes out to this child.
