How long should Metta World Peace be suspended?

the survey needed "banned for life" on it - the guy has problems with his temper and should not be allowed as a roll model to play anymore. I don't want my kid seeing someone with poor sportmanship on the court. There are hundreds of guys that want to play let one of them replace his sorry rear end!

Lastly, all factors of the incident should be factored into the suspension...including Metta lying about it being an accident as well as James Hardens possible role...I as a lakers fan will be cool with that justice...we may miss his play, but we fight on with who we have...see the victory after the ejection!

  • slipkid - 12 years ago

Just to clarify...when I say Metta was in the moment and celebrating, I mean that when Harden came up on him I think Metta had that common sports reaction of "Get off of me" but he shoulda manned up and aidmitted he did it on purpose...that was ridiculous...as for the earlier poster Jaclyn..."typical lakers player" wow...how about "typical lakers hater"...FYI lady...we fought for our championships, and anyone who is a true sports fan has a healthy respect for the opposition...they wouldn't be worthy rivals if they sucked...that includes Boston

  • slipkid - 12 years ago

Cheapshot...yes...intentional...yes....I believe Metta was in the moment, and was celebrating, and Harden came up to him probably to nudge him and/or talk smack cause it doesn't make sense for him to go near him when you're on offense...you don't seek out defenders. That being said, he does need to get suspended...my guess would be 5 games is fair...to go any further would be to ignore all the other plays that were dirty that went unsuspended. I do believe the shot had the potential to do a lot of harm, but I don't believe it did all that much. It was no one hitter quitter. I do believe the Thunder are milking it a bit. As far as Mettas past, irrelavant...it is a contact sport, and he has payed for any past circumstances where he has crossed boundaries. Each event should always be weighed on its own...this isn't knitting

i am from the cleveland area, a longtime fan of the Cav's, Brown's and the Indian's. thought i knew all there was about loser's. seems i was more out of touch with things than our front runner republican canidate. this player is very talented, but that doesn't change anything, while the vast majority of the players in this sport do it by the rules; as a professional and a role model. he can't, he has a history, to act like a thug from the streets of NYC, on national tv is something we don't need to see. i believe he should seek another sports profession, like boxing. maybe playing with others that don't play well with others is just the right therapy.

I'm a lifelong Laker fan, but i'm a human being first. There's no place for Peace's intentional attack on Harden. The Peace apologists who try to excuse his behavior or place blame on Harden make me sick. Were these people never taught about sportsmanship? Peace should be PERMANENTLY banned from the NBA. Kobe's my favorite player, but he was dead wrong saying a player can't be judged by one play. Plenty of people are in jail due to one act. Peace should never be allowed on an NBA court simply because he could act like a mindless thug a third time.

An elbow is an elbow, but don't be prejudiced because it was done by Metta.
I put zero, because there is no other options like:
2 for Metta and 1 for Harden.
If you know the basketball, and watched the game, you know what I mean.
And since when Metta had a dirty play?

Harden had no reason to get closed to Metta. He was not defending Metta when Metta dunked!
Either mutual suspension or no suspension, if there is a justice in the game.
    Meh~

i have a question for the people that think that no suspension is the best option... if Miami gets to play Chicago in the playoff whats stopping them both not to put Scalabrine in the field and just punch Lebron and Wade out and miami to put Eddy Curry in and knock out Rose and Deng ?? or better Dallas you knock out Dirk Nowitzki and your win is almost garanteed without their closer.
if you don't suspend now all the all star players are in for some punches:))
and the guy who said that Durant hit Kobe in the face after Kobe hit him ... i didn't watch the game live and i looked over the replay a few times and Durant didn't have intention there

and really there are people who actually liked that Harden was knocked out?
what if Kobe was hit by Perkins like that and was injured all the playoffs, as Lakers fans you would have wanted Perkins to be KILLED
i like rough plays in sports but let the UFC fighters do elbow hits, at least 10 game suspension for me max all playoff a year is too much or ban from NBA ... in the past players fought :)) threw punches Shaq and others ... yes we are not monkeys anymore but still 15 games suspension is enough

Get this animal out of the NBA for good!

  • Adam - 12 years ago

He was already on his second chance, this is the same guy who went INTO THE STANDS and attacked FANS.

Kick him out of the NBA.

r u all kiddin me, seriously ! Artests dunks the ball turns to celebrate like he always does, Harden not appreciating the dunk or the celebrarion moves up under artest, for no reason but to get in his grill. Harden at that point was on offense, his only move should have been to head down the court. harden knew exactly what he was doing. yes bad foul, but why does nobody seem to put any of this on harden?

He makes me hate the term world peace!

  • blade - 12 years ago

World Peace is a professional and is expected act professionally according to NBA standards. Permanent expulsion is deserved. I vote for a two game suspension though--no premeditation, and Artest makes games intertaining. I put blame on the officials and on James Hardin too. I think Hardin should be slapped with a fine for incitement...see that bump while ball out of play? The officials allowed way too much stuff and the game was unnecessarily chippy. Let the players play and this sort of thing will happen.

  • doc - 12 years ago

Your poll is short sighted. given his history I would park him all next season too...

  • Nick - 12 years ago

Is this guy for real? He hasn't changed, just his name! Give me a break, get rid of this guy before he really does hurt someone! Is this how the NBA is represented? Good image!!!

  • bruceben - 12 years ago

that was actually a criminal act. on the street that would be a serious assault. this piece of pyoo ke should have criminal charges brought against him and a civil suit is in order as well.

  • Roger Huguez - 12 years ago

As the late, great Chick Hearn would say, "no harm,no foul".

  • TeddyJon3s - 12 years ago

He was celebrating??? Who the heck celebrates by throwing your elbow up like that? Especially when he obviously knew harden was there since he followed through and afterwards tried to act like he didn't even notice when he obviously felt his elbow make contact. If you think that was an accident or a celebration then you are an absolute moron. step away from your blatant bias for the lakers and see it how it is, a cowardly attack by a pathetic player. Suspend him for good.

I remember a few years ago, when Kobe Bryant was getting a little bit of flack for swinging his arm out to the side wildly after a shot attempt and striking his defender.

It was talked about, but no one was calling for Kobe's head or for long, lengthy suspensions.

Could someone explain to me the exact difference between his and Metta World Peace's actions? Because both seem like completely unnatural moves that don't "just happen", and that were done with a specific intent to strike another player.

Now, obviously, the actual effect of MWP's elbow is greater than any of Kobe's actions, given that Harden has a concussion. But it's not the severity of the outcome that's important, it's the severity of the action and level of malice that matters.

  • grandmaLolo - 12 years ago

The same sports reporters and announcers who are calling for Metta World Peace to be punished severely are the same ones who are calling for players to protect their teammates? What sense does that make? Harden is a dirty player himself. I have watched games where he has gone after Kobe. The list goes on. We have watched this video over and over as they replay it on ESPN. Harden was coming up on him as he was 'celebrating'. What about Durant's cheap shot at Kobe's face in retaliation for Kobe's foul a few minutes earlier? (he got him in the eye) Am I the only one who saw that? You know the Thunder are milking this for all they can. Harden came back to the court, but went back to the locker room, for more sympathy votes. You know they are telling him to lay low to make sure MWP gets more suspension days. Kobe played the rest of the AllStar game with a broken nose and concussion and nobody was punished. D. Wade barely apologized.

Artest is giving the lakers a bad name, he tainted an otherwise great game with ANOTHER stupid play! I could really care less how long he's suspended, I just want him released so that we can start rebuilding with a younger team. I hated him ever since we picked him up. P.S. Ibaka wouldve wooped his A** had that fight gone down

That blow cold have killed him or permanently disabled him for life had it hit closer to his temple. No excuse period.

  • Paul - 12 years ago

This poll is flawed as it jumps from a 3 to 5 game suspension to the rest of the year. Being suspended for the 7-10 games would prevent him from playing all of the first round and half of the second, should the Leakers even make it that far. I think the guy snapped under the presure of the negativity and dirty fouls that were going on the floor. It is a shame both football and basketball have sunk so low.

  • Dan - 12 years ago

Artest paid his dues for all things in the past and this is just a 2 game suspension and fine. Over the past couple weeks many teams have been making statements play; Harden just couldn't handle his like Blake Griffin. Harden will be back to himself soon talking smack to Kobe soon.

  • Meta world elbow - 12 years ago

So judging by the comments protecting this guy who has a long reputation of despicable behavior in the nba, it would be cool that next time Artest takes the floor and goes for a dunk that someone clotheslines him in mid air. He has proved his lack of character time and time again. Also, as I recall, I don't ever remember any superstars pulling some Busch league stuff like this, they got physical, but never intentionally tried to maime another player...then again, Metta World POS is far from a superstar in most fans minds.

  • PpD - 12 years ago

James Harden is a punk and got what he deserves! In every game between OKC and the Lakers Harden is talking shit and taunting Kobe, and Metta. Hopefully Metta taught him a lesson by smacking that Abe Lincoln beard off Hardens face!!!

  • Steve White - 12 years ago

Three to five games suspension is fair. I saw Robin Lopez yank down Blake Griffin, who was in the air and helpless. That could have been a career ender. He got a flagrant two and no suspension. I've seen other teams punk Gasol and get nothing. And I've heard the NBA commentators chat on air about how other teams need an enforcer to protect their stars. The NBA is not the National Hockey League...yet. But enforcers have become a regretable part of the playoffs and statement games. This was definately a statement game.

  • Austin - 12 years ago

ok zack, since you dont know what its like to be angry a.k.a. golden child, how about you play a sport and do terrible and then tell me how you feel.

  • Zack in Boston - 12 years ago

This guy used up all his chances already. I get it.....he's probably a relatively good guy.....but he doesn't deserve to be on the court with grown men who control themselves. He'd a beast on the "inside" I'm sure and maybe that's where he should play. But for now he HAS to be out as long as Harden and then some. Otherwise you send the message that this was somehow not that bad. It was THAT bad.

  • Austin - 12 years ago

Come on people, like really, you guys are not the ones playing out there and working your butts of just to be able to play the sport that they love. And i think that everyone has had a point in life when you were in a sport and you got at the point that you didnt care what happens next and just feel like putting an elbow to someone's face. Because I know that i have had my fair share of fights in football, basketball, and wrestling.

  • jacklyn - 12 years ago

This is sad... he has "World Peace" on the back of his jersey representing PEACE in this world but can throw such a horrific elbow like that... i have played basketball my whole life and had my nose broken twice bc of A holes like this.... typical laker team mate
