Should the adults have given the ball to the kid?

Also, the two that kept the ball will have 7 kids between them after they are married. I think they know how to handle crying kids. And they probably have a child who will want that ball also.

Having seen an interview with the parents thsi morning on TV, it seems we are too quick to judge. The couple that got the ball were getting married today, the parents didn't want the couple to give the ball to the kid. Someone in the Texas dugout tossed a ball to the Dad so the kid did get one. The mother stated that the couple was nice to the kid through out the night. She had no hard feelings at all toward the couple.

When a ball finds its way into the crowd unintentionally - foul ball, homerun - it's fair game. When a player tosses the ball into the crowd intentionally, they almost always toss it to a specific person - usually a child (though sometimes a hot chick). It's pretty obvious, though you could just ask him directly, that Mitch Moreland intended for the dad to catch the ball and give it to his kid.

If you're an adult, take pride in catching a foul ball or a homerun ball. Get excited about that. If a player tosses the ball into the crowd, though, understand that it wasn't meant for you and let it reach the obvious two year-old target it was intended for.

Further proof that Texans really are a-holes.

Didn't see the game, but I can't imagine that the player tossed the ball to the guy who already has a toy at the game.

I never understood why so many people go crazy trying to get a free "used" baseball. I attended a Dodgers game last year where a guy in his 40's ran right over a little kid trying to get a foul ball. The child was hurt and needed medical attention from the stadium staff.

I'm pretty sure I went to a ton of baseball games as a kid and not once did I ever get a foul ball or home run ball given to me. If you wanted one you had to earn it and I did when I was in college when I finally got a foul ball at a Twins-Tigers game. Even adults get thrilled if its their first ball. I guess its part of society today to give screaming kids everything they want instead of actually making them earn something.

Folks sure can jump to conclusions.
First, maybe they never even noticed the crying kid. They did not appear to be laughing at him - they never looked at him.
And second, have you fools ever heard of hair color and makeup? That's his wife & she's the same age as he is. Don't be stupid.

Give my a flipping break? They are awful human beings?

Maybe they aren't sell outs and don't want to capitulate to whatever everybody does. Maybe Jimmy Trania should spend less time judging other people (dude, you post links to bathroom humor and lingerie models- you're not some voice of the people) and, come to think of it, less time shoving Twitter, is Jeter man-crush, Kim Kardashian, overrated Kate Upton and (I'll try not to barf) "everyone's favorite sideline reporter" Erin Andrews.

Get over it and get in shape.

Hey, I'm 53 and if I had a girlfriend who looked like her I'd give the ball to the kid. I'd won the jackpot already. Yankee fans, turn this ungrateful sot over for a "beatin'" !

  • Rennie - 12 years ago

Completely agree with Will. I've been going to games for 30 years and never have I come close to a ball. There is no way I would give it to a five-year-old if I got one. That kid has the rest of his life to catch a ball and he's too young to appreciate it for more than a minute even if the couple had given it to him. Love Hot Clicks but please lay off ripping people you don't know in situations where you weren't there.

To all you people who say the ball was destined for the kid, STFU. That kid needs to learn to deal with disappointment now rather than later.. He has no right to that ball any more than anyone else. If it was that important for the kid to have the ball, his parents should have tried harder to get it for him. But alas, they failed him twice: 1) Failing to get the ball for him and then 2) Failing to shut his crying, whining ass up. This is the type of kid who will finish last in something and then EXPECT to get a ribbon or trophy for just participating. That is crap. He will most likely end up needing his parents to attend every job interview with him. Crap like this is the reason kids feel so entitled now. You lost out this time kid. Learn from it, suck it up and do better the next time.

Sorry Jimmy, you are wrong on this one and I hope you get called on it. They didn't do anything wrong, you just would have done it differently. Most awful human beings in the world are idiots like you who want to judge without being in their shoes. Hopefully the Most Awful Human beings in the world find a way to show you that publicly criticizing and hurting their reputation without merit doesn't go without consequences.

How can anyone be so happy while a small kid is crying desperately right beside? Just give the kid the ball! TERRIFIC JOB JIMMY! Thanks a lot for this !! Hotclicks is Great!!

  • Ken - 12 years ago

Give the ball to the kid. There really needs to be a handbook for how to handle routine foul balls and tosses from players.

1)Feel free to catch the ball. This includes jumping above anyone's reach, using your glove, reaching into other rows, whatever. In the air, the ball is fair game for anything shy of the MWP elbow.

2)Hold the ball up for the cameras, let your friends get a look at it, jump around, all that.

    3) GIVE THE BALL TO THE KID. You're a grownup, for pete's sake. It's just a baseball. The only way you can keep it is if it's actually valuable, like a record homerun ball. Otherwise, it's the kid's, period. Anything else makes you a jerk.

  • Dick - 12 years ago

Forget knowing who the kid's parents are, how about the old guy's ID?? Then we can be as thoughtful with our emails to him as he was to this kid. I agree with Joel.. always give the kid the ball.. Someone did it for me at Wrigley Field along time ago and I never forgot it and have since returned the favor at least twice to some kid I did not even know.

  • Scott - 12 years ago

Agree with Sane Person and others above - if the ball appeared to be meant for the kid (or they had their hands on it but dropped/bobbled/etc, then they get the ball.

If the kid is whining because they were near a ball and thought it should be theirs - no sympathy, crappy kid behavior. (If the parents were solely focused on

Without video I don't like that this picture was posted - there is no evidence that the 'public shaming' is deserved.

  • Coleman Slawski - 12 years ago

It's not their damn kid, why should they have to give him the ball?

  • Mike - 12 years ago

Thanks Hot Clicks for posting what you did. They are "awful human beings". How selfish can you be? You should always give the ball to a child. It is terrible to see peoples selfish acts displayed like this.

  • J - 12 years ago

Kids get far too much by crying and whining. And kudos to the "old guy" for landing a hot one.

  • richie - 12 years ago

Do you really think the player was tossing it to the old man? No, those tosses are for the kids (ok, maybe a good looking girl now and then) but mostly to a kid!

  • John - 12 years ago

Did you guys watch the video? The kid was crying his head off before the guy even had a chance to get up. A ton of people went for the ball, and the "mean old man" who scrambled for it on the ground was as excited as anyone would be for getting a ball.
Have you guys ever been to a baseball game and seen a ball coming your way? What did you do when it has? The rarity of the event makes the fan inside all of us forget just about everything and go after the ball.
Don't be so swift to judge

  • Joel Cooper - 12 years ago

You ALWAYS give the ball to a kid. Always. The guy clearly lacks character, I mean he's smiling and laughing it up while this kid is crying?! D*ck. That ball would meant a lot more to the kid.

  • Dan - 12 years ago

How about giving the ball to the kid BEFORE he starts crying?

  • MinnesotaCoug - 12 years ago

What if they wanted it for their kid(s)? Have unfortunately been in this position before. rare opportunity afforded my wife and I the ability to finally go to a game together and I caught a puck at a hockey game and kept it to give to my kid who is a big fan (knowing my kid was watching). Family next to us practicvally demanded that I give the puck to their kid and then shot us evil glances and made loud obnoxious comments all night when I refused.

  • D - 12 years ago

Kids cry all the time -- there's no way to say it's because he missed the ball. The average attention span of a 3-year old is about 5 minutes. The real DB's are the parents who brought him to a 3 hour game when he can't sit still past 15 minutes of Barney and Friends.

  • DaveW - 12 years ago

What a bunch of douchebags. The 60 year old guy and his 30 year old girlfriend. Obviously neither one of them have had a kid in their life. You know how much that would've meant to a 4 year old? And what's he going to do with the ball? Tell his buddies that are eligible for social security that he made a kid cry? Nice. Hope you got in a car wreck on the way home.

  • DANA - 12 years ago

OK, LET'S GET THIS STRAIGT..MAYBE THE SUGARDADDY WANTED TO IMPRESS HIS TEEN GF....GIVE THE KID THE BALL MORON!!!!

  • Matt - 12 years ago

No crying or whining little basstard deserves a ball like that. Why should the kid get it? Just because he is a kid? Fuk him! I would have kept it and told those parents to shut the little jerkkoff up.

  • Sane Person - 12 years ago

If the ball wasn't obviously meant for the kid, then NO he does not get it.

Think of it as a failure on the kid's parents part in not originally getting the ball.

  • Barry - 12 years ago

It doesn't matter where the kid was sitting......what the hell is that douchebag going to do with the ball? That kid will remember that ball for the rest of his life......trust me. If I was sitting behind that d*ck, I would have gotten the crowd to chant" give the kid the ball" and shamed him into it......plus, where does he get off having a hot thing like that on his arm!!!!

  • Rob - 12 years ago

The kid is crying because baseball is awful. It has nothing to do with not getting the ball, it has to do with having to sit and watch guys play catch for what feels like a lifetime. A game for radio that simply sucks, this kid at his young age already realizes this.

  • Andrew - 12 years ago

The original description doesn't accurately depict the situation. The player tossed the ball into the stands, but it really doesn't look like he was aiming for the kid. If the kid was in the front row and an adult reached over (which I've seen happen), then that adult is a horrible person. Frankly, I think the couple was oblivious to why the kid was crying. One more thing, I question how aware a kid that age would be to a ball thrown in the stands, vs. a kid who was 6 or 7.

    It's a no-win situation.

  • Wil Gibbs - 12 years ago

I see the side of making the kid happy, etc. That's legit. But on the other side, at a game, a baseball from the field/player/homer is a novelty item that very few get. I don't think it's my job to make your kid happy. Suppose the kid saw me with an ice cream cone and he starts crying for that. Does he get that too? And actually I would be more inclined to get him some ice cream as that's plentiful and I can get more but the baseballs are few and far. If it's in their nature and they give the kid the ball, that's cool. But I can't be mad at them if they don't.

  • Craig Sturm - 12 years ago

The ball was probably meant for the kid anyway... Some people - I swear!!!

  • Juan Gonzales - 12 years ago

first time she has ever held a ball that wasn't 60 years old!
