Between those still on an Avengers main team (Peter, Luke, and Logan) -- Logan is one one Avengers team and two X-Men teams, even though he often insists he is not a team player. His strengths are melee and personal recovery, but he also believes in lethal power. Luke has not always been gung-ho about being an Avenger, and he has made his opinions known. He is also the leader of the Thunderbolts, where he scares supervillains back onto the right path. Luke is the current leader of the New Avengers team (not to be confused with the main Avengers team, to which Tony belongs). Although Peter has powers his are not high-tier, yet he can be counted on to take on any kind of trouble, from street-level crime to the cosmic. Like Luke he's on two teams: the New Avengers and the Future Foundation, the current incarnation of the Fantastic Four. Reed values Peter's knowledge in the realm of biology. Being on any team at all is a big deal for a guy who went solo for roughly 40 years -- and at the same time fought alongside and against nearly every other character in the Marvelverse!

That's why my vote goes to Peter Benjamin Parker (Spider-Man).

My previous vote went to Carol Danvers (Ms. Marvel) because she is also an active member of the New Avengers team. Danvers was always tough, as a security officer and as a SHIELD operative. With her Kree powers she simply became superpowered. Next she will step up as the new Captain Marvel -- I appreciate that the costume does not look like a swimsuit, but what's with the hair?

I missed the vote on the first day. I would have voted for Steve Rogers (Captain America/ Commander Rogers). He's the man who kept the Avengers together, even when they would have fallen apart. There is an entire issue all about what happens when one of the villains tries to remove him from every timeline. It's not pretty, yet it proves that the Marvelverse needs the Avengers, just as the Avengers needs Captain America.
