    All of the nominees are great. It's hard to pick one specific route. I voted for the Houghton Canal primarily because it is one of the less traveled, as can be seen from the voting, although, even there, private development is infringing on what used to be wild and special places. The other advantage is that it can include the covered road segment also, so it's a two for one deal. When we visit we manage to hit most of them anyway. Of all the places in the world that we have visited, the Keweenaw is still at the top of my list. It's probably not just the scenery, but the atmosphere generated by the total package of mining communities, historic sites, water and forests, the general topography and the character of the people, along with the memories that go with them. I should change my vote to U.S. 45, which is the way we usually drive to get back "home". When we stop at Bruce Crossing for breakfast and the waitress says, "How are youse today", I know we are getting close.
