What's next?. Do we have to find a new title for our police and fire CHIEFS? Does corporate America need to rename its CHIEF executive officers, CHIEF financial officers, and CHIEF operations officers? In my opinion it's pretty ridiculous. Where does it end? Or does it?

The American public is so put of touch with Indian Country. People think they are giving honor to us, when in reality they don't understand anything about native culture. Education is the key, and the stereotypical image that most native American mascots portray isn't honor, or the way to inform. How can you respect a culture, a people, a way of life by objectifying it? Think about that before you say how proud you are coming from a school with a native American mascot. Personally, I have enough respect for my culture and ancestors to know, I can make my own honor, respect and dignity. I don't need high school chants or rude gestures made from opposing teams to define me. And the fact that it is even a question of right or wrong just shows how little you really comprehend.

I'm native american, am I am not a mascot!!!

This is political correctness to the extreme, I graduated from Reedsport Union High School in 1964 I was a "Reedsport Brave" I was proud, I was resilient, I was Strong, I was respectful being a Reedsport Brave ment you gave the best you could in all endevors. you where not permitted to dishonor that emblem. We considered that emblem as our sign of respect to native Americans

this is ridiculous, as if we havnt got more important things to bitch about, come on people, next you'll be asking the animals if it hurts their feelings that they're being exploited. I'm part indian , was a yellowjacket at one school, a red & white tiger at another, a black and gold tiger at another, I would much rather have been a Brave , Redskin or Indian. I want toknow who started this any way, They need their butt kicked !

I'm a kid who grew up all over and was a Skipper (as in Captain of a ship type - figured I'd explain), a Warrior, and a Coyote! My daughter has now been a Reedsport Brave, a North Bend Bulldog, and ...is now a NFA Wildcat. Do we really need to pull High School Mascots into the spot light??? You would think the tribes would be proud to be represented in such a positive way! If anything, it's a HUGE statement of pride! It's not like anyone or any school is treating them wrongly. And if someone is hasseling an opposing team and making unacceptable comments, they should be removed from the game or field! We can't allow any prejudicial comments to be accepted regardless if it's toward a Bulldog or a Brave, so why change the mascot for someone elses ignorance? Shame on anyone who wants to say this is "discrimination" or "wrong". If I was at a school that the mascot was an ant, I'd be proud to be an ant! And if someone made a unacceptable comment about me being an ant, I would expect the school to take care of the problem at the lowest level, not go change the mascot to something less likely to be "discriminated" against! Why do we allow the "voice" to bring this to the table to begin with??? I think the more important topics on the table for high schools nationwide should be education, drugs, violence, funding, and teen pregnancies....just saying...GOOOOO BRAVES & INDIANS & WARRIORS & all the other teams that are being "picked" on!!!! Oh, and if you change all of these Mascots, are you going to provide each school with the funds to update their schools, uniforms, courts, fields, etc to remove and replace an Indian with a new figure???? Just wondering!!!!

The last time i checked Native Americans are Americans too! Why take away a piece of history from us all just because of some prejudice fool trying to make a name for themself? Prejudice and discrimination are negative manifestations of integrative power. Instead of bringing or holding people together, prejudice and discrimination push them apart. I am having a hard time digesting what could entail if this passes!! You have a voice so use it!

I have Native American Blood in my veins, and I am proud that a School or School District
would want to use a Mascot in Honor of our being Native American.

My Ancestors were some of the first people to be in the United States, and I will always be Proud when a School thinks enough of our Native American Heritage to use it as a Mascot.

Go Schools all over the US.............

It is in my opinion that someone has too much time on their hands. Going by what the article stated (reasons why to change names) then I thing schools should not have animal mascot names either. I am a BANKS NATIVE, AND I believe the whole thing stinks and it leaves a bad taste in my mouth!!!

I'm Irish. So I'm supposed to get upset when a leprechaun is used in an add, or green beer is drunk on Saint Patricks day? Pretty soon we won't be able to talk about anything or post anything anywhere for fear of being sued or upsetting someone or some organization. Indians don't own the names themselves, it's public domain.

I propose we change the names of pro teams to the Indianapolis Idiots, the Washington Wops, the Greenville Guineas, the San Diego Dagos, the Minneapolis Micks, the Cincinnati Kikes, the New York Nigguhs, the Pittsburgh Piccaninnies, the Seattle Semites, and the Phoenix Pigbangers, or ask the dolphins or patriots or colts or broncos how offended they feel by American specisim and moronicism.

This country is no longer even capable of understanding how far the septic drain it has willingly chosen to travel.
