I feel he should accept the scholarship since he earned it. However, as a good gesture his
father could make a substantial contribution to the scholarship fund so maybe 2 or 3 well deserving kids could also go to college.

He will always have the knowledge that he was good enough and smart enough to earn a full scholarship. But he should have the class to know that he has been very lucky in life to have so many riches given to him and that by not accepting the scholarship, some other student, not as lucky or as rich could get make excellent use of the education.
