'I Love Lucy' was way ahead of it's time. There were not very many 'strong' women on TV or in the movies. Plus, what other women carried a TV show back then. It's like saying that Henry Ford did nothing for the auto business because all his early cars were black.
Having defended 'Lucy', I voted for 'Mash'. But, I didn't watch Mash when it was on 1st runs.
I'm a Vietnam vet and when I saw the trailers for the "Mash" movie, I thought, 'Here's somemore hippies ragging on the military'. But, when 'Mash' the TV show hit reruns another vet told me to watch it, and I'm glad he did. I know I have not seen every episode, but I have to say that I've never been dissappointed.

I have never understood the appeal of I Love Lucy: the same mindless ditzy situation comedy, all the time. M*A*S*H tried to put some meaningful messages into their shows. To be fair, the eras were vastly different, and Lucy was a ratings monster. But how sad to see the championship match-up turn into such a rout!
