Sound off on the new 'Voice' Bible translation
I like what I see – its language is easier to understand
Translating the sense of the passage and not just its literal meaning is an acceptable technique for communicating what the original language meant
The focus is on helping people have an experience with Scripture and not just learn facts about Scripture -- I think that's important
A tempest in a teapot – the Bible is the most owned and least read book in the world. A new translation won't change that
Why does anyone waste time translating the Bible? There's no god and whatever it says doesn't matter
There are plenty of modern English translations already – why a new one now?
From the examples I read, the language seems trite, lacking the power of the words I learned when I was young
The dumbing down of the language is a direct reflection on the American education system
It's a marketing gimmick – as I recall from Jesus clearing the money changers out of the Temple, he doesn't like that
The modern evangelical church is abandoning Scripture for experience – this translation is well-targeted
I can't see this translation having the cultural-transforming influence that earlier, more literal ones had
It is such an accommodation to the popular culture, it's not worthy of being called a Bible
