Should Boynton Beach switch to the sheriff’s office?

The Boynton Beach Police Dept is broken. Poor Hiring practices, low pay along with old school leadership has lead to young arrogant officers that intimidate and harass the Citizens of Boynton Beach. BBPD Officers have little regard for the law and routinely trample on the rights of those they are supposed to serve, this is especially true in the low income minority areas. At least PBSO can restore some order and civility to the rank and file. Otherwise a Federal investigation and state takeover is inevitable. I can't tell you how many friends I have in law enforcement that agree something is very wrong in Boynton Beach.

The problem is that the general public only sees the alleged dollars and cents. Trust me I was aPO in Boynton for 20 years and a union rep. The truth is the SO will not provide superior service and the promise will last for a year maybe two. The proposal called for 128 officers well what about the 36 others taht make up the 164 and the 20 some civilians. Two million dollars in a budget that large (the cities) could be done in a number of ways. How about starting with chief, maybe he would volunteer to take a pay cut instaed of selling out 50 some people. How about going to the unions and ask for a temp pay cut that would enable all to keep their jobs. The list could go on but the bottom line is the Chief is a sellout only caring to take care of himself and you can bet that the policing will not get better. The officers of the police department care about BBPD and the citizens period!

The downside is that pbso won't dispatch on that loud drunken neighbor's 2 am party, or get their cars out of your driveway.

If it means saving big money and receiving superior service. This is a gift. What is the down side?
