This is the 12th week since my job was "eliminated". I haven't yet gotten any benefits paid into my bank account. After 10.5 weeks, I found a Facebook page for the Florida DEO and publicly stated my issue since I couldn't find anyone interested in looking into my claim. Once, a state employee refused to identify himself and hung up on me when I asked to speak to a supervisor. FB to the rescue! Suddenly, the state was interested in clearing my issue. The state had not yet verified my severance amount after 10.5 weeks. I faxed them my pay stubs which verified the amount I listed on my initial claim. They have a 3rd party who gets paid for making inquiries to employer's 3rd parties for these matters (another waste of taxpayer money). A claim was paid that afternoon but still no money in my account. After putting me off another 4 business days, I was able to coerce an employee with the payment unit that the payment had been made and to the WRONG ACCOUNT NUMBER. I had to initiate a "change of payment method" so the system would re-issue my payment to the new number in the system. My next week's payment should have been made now and neither is in my bank account.
I left a message at the One Stop Center in WPB 2 days ago and still, no one has returned my call.
Not only has Florida's unemployment payments not kept up with the minimum wage increases, the system is completely broken and employees are apathetic. GIVE ME A STATE JOB.

The State of Florida has always been about cheating it's Citizens. From pay, to benefits so why should this surprise me I don't know. I've never had to file for unemployment in my life..first time I try and can't do the stupid assessment because the page does not display, ridiculous. I say take them to court & get rid of all the useless Politicians now!!!

YES....we are cheated on a grand scale.....Florida cares nothing for the working class or poor....definitely nothing for Unemployed or homeless...Florida doesn't even pay a decent living wage while WORKING!!!!

I also have a degree in IT and have found the website utterly confusing. Links that repeat, titles that mean nothing compared with what they are supposed to mean, and the layout of questions sits the yes and no buttons lop sided so you cant differentiate which is which.
You are also ONLY able to use the website during certain hours of the day.
Furthermore, upon receiving a phone call from the interviewing advocate that was handing my case I was unable to take the call because, like ALL my paper work stated, I have class during the hours that she called. I had to call her back 20+ times just to get her to answer the phone. And when she did she was furious that I called that many times. Though, the message she left on my voice mail stated that I only have until the next day to call but her specific office is only open from 9am-11am. 9 TILL 11?? Are you kidding me? But they don't answer their phone during these hours!!
Her name is ROSE BERGER.
She denied my benefits out right even though all evidence pointed towards my former employee being in the wrong. When it came to my appeal we were on the phone for 10 minutes before the advocate told my former employee that nothing they said was true.
They do make it difficult and hope that you do not appeal.
I've yet to know someone who received their benefits out right without a fight.

YES THEY ARE CHEATING PEOPLE. I was told 2 months ago they had to receive a letter from my former employer i was told they received the required documents now i have to wait for a adjustor to make a determination and the adjuster can take as long as they please to make a determination and i can not talk to the adjustor who is handling my claim just keep calling our office and keep looking for work and we are sorry for anything and everything you are going through while you are suffering.

The only thing you can do is document and track and sue florida and take it to court. Florida is liable for its citizens and laws now upgrading asap with firing our officials in office and make affordable housing possible

My job was cut due to budget cuts. I did receive benefits for a couple of months, but as soon as they found out that I was taking college classes, they cut my benefits. They did not call or send me a letter telling me they were doing this. I was able to continue claming my weeks, but when the check was supposed to be in my account, there was nothing there. I called and I was that since I was in 'a class room' taking college classes that I was not able to work. I told the lady that I was taking ONE on line course. She asked me where my school was located and I told her, Clinton, Iowa and San Diego, California. I live in Florida! Her response was, "Oh....... so you aren't in a class room and I said, NO! Then she told me it could take up to 4 weeks for them to decide whether to give me my benefits back. It has been four week and nothing yet. I have used every cent of my savings and now my rent is due.
I talked to someone at the unemployment office today to see where my case was. All she could say was an email was sent to the review board and they were only allowed to send ONE email every 14 days. I was to call back next week. She asked about my case and I told her that I was only taking one class. She said that the FLORIDA SYSTEM IS SET UP TO KICK ANYONE OFF OF UNEMPLOYMENT IF THEY ARE GOING TO COLLEGE. Now how stupid is that.
I earned my A.A. driving 104 miles round trip to college three times a week AND working 40 to48 hours a week. Plus I have been taking on line classes for the past few years while I was working.
I can't believe how Florida is ripping so many people off.

Florida EB unemployment just got triggered back to ON by federal government on June 15th, but there is no way to claim the benefits on the florida website because they haven't updated it yet and given qualified claimants access to it.

It seems like half of the on-line weekly claim process is presented in bold red lettering with assorted warnings about fraud, penalties, and punishments for false filings. One feels guilty just trying to get to the actual filing page. And any explanatory letters sent are mostly incomprehensible in what they are actually trying to convey. I had a number of weeks left of a legitimate claiming period and was cut off because Florida's number were below some formula. So I'm off the rolls and our Governor claims the number of unemployed is dropping. They are not dropping, there are just few people reporting.

To address the other issues like requiring a computer, not letting claims be done over the phone, etc. This is inefficient for the state regardless of the fact that it can be discriminatory or exclusionary (Libraries often have computers for use, I realize that is not optimal). Our state requires your initial claim in person, questionnaires, forms, etc. all to be filled out and filed during that initial in-person meeting. You are required to register with the Dept. of Labor for job counseling and create your Dept. of Labor profile for the state job site (they have job listings from all over the state, not necessarily state jobs). Once you do that, you are allowed to file your weekly claims over the phone. If there is any deviation from the normal claim, problems, etc. you must deal with that in person (you can call them, but it usually ends up with a visit to correct something), after a certain point, when it is considered extended unemployment, you have to go in and refile, and then in addition to calling in your claim, you must send in a pre-printed card filled out with at least three jobs that you applied for that week. With ALL the information they ask for, or they will hold it until you call to find out why they haven't sent a check, at which time they will let you know what the problem is and make you come down there to add something to the card, info whatever. They have provisions for the deaf as well. There is really no excuse for some of these problems being reported in FL, however, I would imagine that everything in FL could be done on paper and in person if necessary. Our Dept. of Labor has a center with computers, copiers, business supplies, etc. so if you don't have access to what you need you can go there and sit on line and job hunt, read your e-mails, copy your resume, e-mail your resume, etc. These are all things that FL should take a look at implementing...

I don't think that artificially keeping the eligible unemployment recipients down to appease businesses because of the tax system they have set up to pay for unemployment is appropriate. It throws false "claim" numbers for the state, it cheats those that should be eligible for no other reason than they want to save money, and the two should have nothing to do with one another. This may not be a popular solution, (I live in DE now, and they have a similar system), but I lived for most of my working life (over 20 years) in two states that took an unemployment insurance tax out of employees paychecks (their may have been a coinciding employer contribution, don't know), but this type of system would or should quiet many of the claims made by the employed and angry (that the unemployed are lazy and feeding off of taxpayers) and would also provide money funded by those that worked and paid into it to lessen the burden on the state and its businesses and taxpayers... just my thoughts.
By the way, after all the years of my paying into these systems in other states, I end up in a state that does not have that type of system and has one of the lowest top thresholds for weekly payout...I'm now out of unemployment compensation, and struggling after a pretty successful career with no gaps in employment for 20 years (before that it was only a couple for child rearing reasons).

Florida was once a slave state and in many ways it still is slave state where the workers are treated in many ways like slaves. Along with the rest of CSA, Flordia had its 'right to work' laws which destroyed the power of unions before it started to cut back on unemployment benefits. The state has always been one of the lowest paid workers in the union. It is not accidental this has happened.

Yes, Florida is cheating people out of there unemployment when I did my application 6 months ago I was not aware I had to take an assessment and when I called about my status the first representative told me about job search did not explained about an assessment and when I received the letter my benefits was denied because I didn't do the assessment and the website don't tell you and you can't go back the website is poorly done. Even to claim your weeks if you hit the wrong tab you cant go back and that can delay or denie your claim.

I do not feel the word cheating is appropriate, however, I was unemployed a few years ago and without my mad computer skills I would have never received a check. How can the state of FLA expect those who lost their jobs unexpectedly in most cases spend money on an ISP, Computers, cell phone minutes and the like and then assume they can navigate their web pages. On the other hand with some help from the state like a Helpdesk that is staffed with live living human personnel, people could get help. The page is very intuitive but not for the masses of those unemployed now. That #'s just revealed if accurate is appalling and I thank god I have a job with a company who cares. Dss, Inc. It is clear the political (strongly tied to Corporate) entities currently in power will benefit strongly from the decrease in claims and benefits generated due to the difficulty engineered to disrupt the ability of the unemployed to access their rights.
