I post with my real name because it’s not about who I did or did not vote for here—or even if I voted at all. It’s unfortunate to see that some people couldn’t adhere to the below guideline posted by the author.
“Guidelines: We welcome your thoughts, but for the sake of all readers, please refrain from the use of obscenities, personal attacks or racial slurs. All comments are subject to our terms of service and may be removed. Repeat offenders may lose commenting privileges.”
This isn’t about numbers at this point. The two finalists were initially nominated based on their stats but they got as far as they did based on the support of the readers, their peers, family, coaches, etc. No, not a “popularity contest”—it’s called SUPPORT! And it’s not to say that someone got less than the other.
These—numbers wise—are two talented collegiate female athletes! They should both be commended for their abilities and not tarnished because people are posting the way that they have here.
Might I remind you that you represent two Christian schools—whether you are of the faith or not is beside the point, you CHOSE to attend the institution and therefore represent that it—whose missions are:
“...believes each person has been created for a purpose. CBU helps students understand and engage this purpose by providing a Christ-centered educational experience that integrates academics with spiritual and social development opportunities. Graduates are challenged to become individuals whose skills, integrity and sense of purpose glorify God and distinguish them in the workplace and in the world.”
“TO SEEK truth, enlarging human understanding through scholarship;
TO KNOW God, ourselves, and the world through reflection, instruction, and mentoring;
TO SERVE others, contributing to the good of our local and global communities.
We pursue this mission with excellence, integrity, compassion, and mutual respect.”
Many of you have failed to live out or demonstrate you missions through your posts here; this is unfortunate coming from our future.
I’d like to congratulate both of these athletes on their academic and athletic accomplishments throughout their collegiate careers. They should be proud of themselves and not need the outcome of a poll—winner or otherwise—to validate that.
My final note is to the author, if you are going to post the guideline you should stand by it. Not infringe on one's freedom of speech but stand by what you say. Allowing those negative comments is not doing that.

Hey Hater-
Calm yourself. Nikki deserves this award more than anyone. Her dedication and passion for this sport is beyond enough. Don't be mad just because YOU didn't get as many supporters.
Stop hating, it's an ugly trait. Spend your time more wisely by voting rather than hating. That would at least get you somewhere better.
