Did LeBron James foul Kevin Durant on key play?

A foul is a foul. No matter who is involved, no matter who initiates the contact, no matter at what point in the game, no matter how important the game, no matter whether or not it affects the outcome of the game, no matter when it happens. All this twaddle about manning up and making the shot, anyway, and all the rest of the homer (both ways) gobbledygook in here is just completely irrelevant. By the definition of a foul, Le Bron fouled him. End of discussion. Should KD still have made the shot? In my opinion, yes, but that's irrelevant, too. How about THE TRIP? Le Bron sticking his foot out and tripping? How about the KD charge non-call? The point is, the refs need to call the fouls the same way every time. But they won't. They don't do it in any sport. Look at baseball; different strike zone for different umpires, and the change during the game. It will never get better until you let computers and replays have complete control, and pray that never happens.

Any real baller here knows that that play can hardly be called a foul, basketball is a physical game, and this is play-off basketball.... Unless Lebron had caught him full on or even on the hand, then I would agree call that a foul. What we saw a touch or leg brush and Lebron even had time to get his arm out of the way........ Unless they're playing girly netball that is certainly no foul. Even KD didn't argue the call because he knows.

LeBron James fouled Kevin Durant. The ref must have been standing there with his eyes closed. OKC should have played a better first quarter, but let's give them credit for the way they battled back. Let's see the goaltending call that gave Miami two points should have never been called. Now what should the final score have been?

I really dont enjoy watching the NBA much anymore! The reffing is complete Sh*t! The game is controlled by the refs! The have special fouls called "respect" calls which are only given to the superstars! It is garbage and no longer true basketball! The refs really wreck basketball in the nba!

Durant should have fouled out a few minutes before that last shot but he's the star and Battier, who was called for the foul, is not. It was an obvious charge. Calls went both ways during the game.

  • Charlie - 12 years ago

It was a foul and I agree LeBron is a DIRTY PLAYER. Referee was standing right on top of the play ????

  • dan - 12 years ago

Anyone who has competitively played the game of basketball can clearly see this was not a foul. The game is played hard by grown men. The game should be decided by the players. This was indeed the correct "no call" in every aspect. Maybe Durant should gain a couple pounds and man up before whining about a leg brush.

  • chadwyck burton - 12 years ago

James and Wade are "National Treasures". They are victims of hate. The NBA clearly knows what they are doing in these playoffs!!!!!!!!!

  • Dwayne - 12 years ago

This has been the worst officiating I've ever seen, the entire playoffs.
It seems like they want Lebron and Wade win to bad they have compromised the entire game of basketball. Even duing the regular season it was bad i though it would have gotten better during the playoffs.
It seems like THE FIX IS ON!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wether it was a foul or not the refs cant decide the game period. Durant shouldve ben mre aggressive towards the rim. U gotta earn it. Ths is the NBA FINALS PEOPLE. Cant look fr the refs to bail u out.

  • Mike - 12 years ago

Maybe, but in reality Durant should have fouled out on the charge into Battier minutes before. Good no call.

  • Jon - 12 years ago

Good no call. However, Lebron traveled with the rebound before the foul was called!!!

  • Jack - 12 years ago

Yes there was a foul, and to all u fools talkin bout how OKC needs to learn its a mans game and acting like they were saying the no call costed them the game obviously didn't watch the press conference afterwards. they responded like champions when repeatedly asked about the non call. just said he missed the shot and that they never should have allowed themselves to be in that situation. they never wined or cried about it or once blamed the non call for costing them the game. so everyone shohld stop hating on OKC cuz they handled the situation like men and like champions!

This whole NBA play-off into the middle of June is a farce! Did you expect anything different?

  • Dante - 12 years ago

That's not a foul. The slow motion and the replay angle will bias the poll, but that's not even the half of it. The fact that this poll even exists is a testament to just how completely out of control the Heat-loathing has become. There would be no such poll if Durant had gotten that call. And if it had been James taking the shot and got the call, then there would be rioting in the streets across America. Get a grip, people.

  • Nbafun - 12 years ago

Its a foul but money is more important then the fairness in making a right call and edging a game. 7 games more revenue for NBA.

  • bryanprime - 12 years ago

Lebron clearly fouled him. When your getting your shooting hand held down, getting a elbow in the mid section and being shoved its difficult to make a shot. Lebron james always fouls down low... very dirty player.

  • jason deviva - 12 years ago

I understand that it is tough to see everything when its live action but it was unbelievably obvious even at real time speed ...the situation of the play and how much it counted towards the game...its the finals ya gotta get the call right

  • kuntry - 12 years ago

Like durant said he missed the shot I like durant great player been in bigger positions than that if u are scared of alil contact u shouldn't be in a man's game like these guys on here commenting talkin bout it was a foul u soft this is the playoffs thunders have to understand this is an battle field and u have to be ready for whateva its been calls Miami haven't gotten its been calls thunders haven't gotten can't get them all period

  • esteban - 12 years ago

durant wen str8 into james and plus durant deserves it after all da other fouls da referees called on miami even though they didnt see da fouls dat da thunders were making on miami

  • Shiner - 12 years ago

Contact does not equal foul. Good no call.

  • Paul - 12 years ago

I've seen much less than that called when LBJ has the ball. BS...this was a horrible non-call that definitely affected the outcome of the game...granted the Thunder shouldn't have let themselves get into that position to begin with. I guess all I really want to see is CONSISTENCY from the refs, at least throughout the same game.

  • Laker Lover - 12 years ago

I definitely thought it was a foul. James was caught looking the other way and never expected Durant to receive an inbound pass. he was playing off Durant with his head turned anticipating the screen. Fisher saw this, threw the pass directly and James was caught off guard. This all being said, that was definitely not Durant's strongest effort. he could have gone to the rim for the dunk, instead he chose a fade-away from his weakest shooting position because he "felt" he was fouled. next time he needs to take matters into his own hands and not wait for the refs to bail him out. Rarely happens in game deciding situations.

  • george - 12 years ago

Going on all of the replays I've seen there was a foul. The ref didn't make the call nut that's the breaks of the game, sometimes you get them and sometimes you don't. In the long run it all evens out.

  • Tbone - 12 years ago

If you watch the replay it's pretty clear that the contact didn't affect Durant's shot in any way. A good no call so late in the 4th quarter of a finals game.

  • BGThunderFan - 12 years ago

Did James foul Durant? Yes. Did it affect the outcome of the game? No. The Thunder MUST learn that pro basketball is a 48 minute game not just 12.

  • What! - 12 years ago

If you think this is a foul, you've been watching basketball TOO LONG. Why is it that people are becoming bigger, and BIGGER, sissy's these days. Start watching more sports like Rugby, or Hockey, or English League Soccer (that's right, there are places in this world where even soccer is tougher than your girls sport). Grow up people, he didn't punch him. He had an arm out. If you can't dribble through an arm. You didn't deserve to get past it anyways!

  • Lee - 12 years ago

Wow! That was a strange response. I didn't see any of that while viewing the many replays from multiple angles. I also didn't understand the referee's position in which he was standing during the play. Was he watching for a foul on the back of Duran? It just reminds me of my father when I was growing up. Every year during the NBA finals my father would come into my room and he would say, "Why are you watching game one, turn the TV off and turn it back on during the fourth quarter of game seven."

  • Jack Duce - 12 years ago

Elbow in midesection...pushing....and absolute foul! ...the reason i find the NBA and basketball, as a whole, no fun to watch...it is controlled by the refs.

  • Kevo2l - 12 years ago

Weren't there also some controversial calls that went the Heat way in the semi-finals too! The league is definately not above reproach. Maybe the NBA referee that accused the NBA of cheating and directing the cheating is telling the truth.

  • mn - 12 years ago

no foul at all. good call

  • ghost writer - 12 years ago

It doesn't matter about the missed call. There were tons of other missed calls during the game that could have effected the outcome. The real problem was that the Thunder got off to a lousy start and just got beat throughout the whole game until very late.

  • Francis Dove, Major, USAF, Ret - 12 years ago

James was holding him by pushing his left hand/wrist up in his arm pit and with the back of his hand against the right upper chest of Durant. I am sure that the referees could see this on replay. If the NBA says this cannot be called from replay they are killing the game, because the fans do not want a team to win by cheating. I wish James had taken an ethics class at U. of Texas. I am through watching.

  • anonymous - 12 years ago

What they will do to ensure that the series goes to 7 games...all for the money. No more NBA for me.....

  • anon - 12 years ago

There was no foul. Durant created the contact.
