What a great way to increase government revenues.

Who are these people that come up with these ideas? Are they the same people responsible for public policy and the moral compass of our province? Bring back prohibition Lol!

Lets call it like it is.
SGLA is a tax grab for the provincial government that makes credit card companies look like church charities

People with addictive issues with seek whatever means necessary to satisfy that addiction. Whether they use all their resources to purchase alcohol, whether they resort to stealing for their addiction or whether they are consuming things that are more harmful in order to satisfy the need they have.
When they have to start consuming things like hand sanitizers, Lysol, oven cleaner, paint thinner, spray paint, etc. this is where there is a huge waste of tax paying dollars.
These chemicals are not meant for the human body to consume but are a cheap alternative to purchase. Think of the tax dollar going to out to treat someone who has consumed these.
These are toxic to the system and quite often end a person up in intensive care, dialysis, etc.
Lower the cost of alcohol and you will see less abuse of these chemicals as well as less abuse of our health care dollars.
It is much easier for the body to process alcohol as apposed to the toxins mentioned above.
The government needs to start accessing whether you get revenue from the people who can afford to purchase the higher priced alcohol or whether you make it affordable as in the US, Mexico, etc and have less health care dollars wasted...

59 people are still part of that old, sadly run, "have-not", NDP lead province

People will always find away to get what they want. This is another stupid idea by our government. Did raising the prices of cigarettes make people stop. NO!

Really? The only thing that higher liquor prices will stimulate is more bootlegging. Get real, addicts of all kinds, regardless of the drug they are hooked on, do all kinds of lying, cheating and stealing to support their habits. I am of the opinion that the Video slot Machines that we have in most every bar in Saskatchewan are much more of a threat to society that alcohol. An alcoholic can pick up a jug and some mix for $40.00 to $ 50.00 for an evening. The slot machines consume paychecks in an evening, while young family's are at home with little or no food on the table. If the Government really wants to fix some of societies problems, pull the slot machines out of the bars.

If people want alcohol they will get it one way or the other, there are those out there that can not afford a can so they go to lysol or hand sanitizer as we all know. There will be more crime as people will start stealing it from stores. And for those who like to have a drink once in awhile who dont cause trouble are being punished in a sense by having to pay more for other people stupidity. Why do we not just ban alcohol all together and be done with it. We already have to pay hundreds and hundreds in taxes for nothing really, our streets are garbage our parking lots are garbage, we have thousands of useless people sitting on welfare because they are too lazy and stupid to work, and who pays for that ? we do, so not only are we having to pay into taxes for nothing, we are having to pay for losers to sit on welfare as well as pay an arm and a leg for a drink once ina blue moon. WOW GOVERNMENT COME ON............

I agree with Sharon. If they really need it, they will find a way to get it.

This will only lead to an increase in crimes. Those with a need will find a way to fulfill it.
