Riverview must be retained as a medical treatment/research centre. With that much land and many building still viable, think of the possibilities for university related research labs, rehab facilities for the addicted, long-term care beds for the elderly as well as medical and social support for the psychiatrically disabled. There are not enough group homes in the system right now to deal with the latter group. That is why they are downtown. Royal Columbian Hospital needs to expand. What more perfect location.
In addition, the trees at Riverview are a first class botanical collection. They must be preserved.

If mental illness has not yet affected you or your family in any of it's convoluted forms, rest assured that it will in the not too distant future. What better place than Riverview to offer a range ot therapies addressing the needs of a diverse population, all on one campus. Services for the mentally ill, addiction services, care for the coming wave of patients with dimentia, a replacement hospital for the Royal Columbian, a Brain Research center, a Wellness Center with all it's therapeutic facilities... Imagine all this on the tranquil setting that Riverview offers. Now imagine the people we elect demonstrating that they understand the needs of this population by committing themselves to retain the lands for hospital and mental health facilities. These lands are a gift to the Province. We must encourage our elected officials to understand this.

i truly beleive that this large property should be used for a new COLUMBIAN HOSPITAL along with a new mental facility----this property is close to freeway -coquitlam,pt moody, surrey etc.
this is such beautiful land room for parking---helicopter landing---ambulance etc----THE COLUMBIAN HOSPITAL is not large enough to accomodate our ever growing p opulation-this would be the perfect place --also room for apartments for nurses doctors or anyone associated with the hospital. thank you

Most of the staff at Riverview Hospital understood and enjoyed the work we did there. No one understood mental illnes with it's trials and tribulations like we did. You cannot get the kind of care we gave anywhere else in B.C.'s medical system. We cared! Psychiatric units in general hospitals are not prepared to nor do they have the room to even start the type of care Riverview provided. Of course the buildings were out dated but the care and attention patients recieved is unmatched anywhere else. B.C. governemnt KNOWS that we need a place like Riverview in our medical system but unfortunately they closed the barn door after the horse got out. Many states and provinces have learned it was not the way to go but the B.C. government proceded regardless. Yes, we are seeing the results in all our communities due to the governments choices.
