In the overall, the SONA was good, although quite long, it was readily understandable.
Being a senior citizen myself, I wish to comment on the matter regarding pension benefits that he mentioned.
We appreciate Pres. Aquino’s cognizance of the role of retired public servants to our society, but can he please look a little farther to the thousands of SSS pensioners who in their own way, have contributed as well to nation building but, whose retirement pensions that are way below the poverty threshold, have not been suitably addressed for decades.
We hope to bring Pres. Aquino’s attention to Sec. 4 (i) of R.A. 9994, the Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010 which provides that: "retirement benefits of retirees from both the government and the private sector shall be regularly reviewed to ensure their continuing responsiveness and sustainability, and to the extent practicable and feasible, shall be upgraded to be at par with the current scale enjoyed by those in actual service.”
If indeed Pres. Aquino and the government care for the welfare of the aged pensioners, the plight of not only one sector of retirees but, of the whole of them should be looked into. It is worth bearing in mind that during the productive years of these same aged pensioners from the private sector, they have given to the government their own share of contribution in improving the economy, in the form of the correct and punctual payment of taxes collected from their compensations.
Giving them the long awaited upgraded pension would be a benefit in its true sense.

The lengthy speech was good, music to the ears for those who have heard it, as a manner of saying. I just want to know the manner in which the government have gathered its data. Here in the northeast, we cannot feel that corruption was reduced. The same poor quality of roads are being built. The same manipulated contractors are still doing the contracts. Red tape on most government offices is still rampant (DPWH,LTO, ROD, Sheriffs,DepEd,etc). Police investigative work is still very sloppy. We cannot feel the presence of programs for the agriculture sector while our region is a major agricultural area. Where are the regional trading centers???
Lest to say, the figures mentioned were too good to be true. Many of the closing high hopes are still dreams and far from being strategic.
Some of P-Noys secretaries are overly praised even if there are no tangible accomplishments. Almendras?? It really sucks! The cost of electricity constantly increases. Oil pricing still favors the oil companies have not changed -- bulk oil price increase, installment price roll back.
There have been accomplishments though, but the pacing is somehow sluggish. At least, there are tangible proofs in the spending of hardwares (police & military). The President should remind himself that he has already spent 1/3 of his term. If it would not be intensified, he will step down after his term still in daydreaming mode.

Kudos to President P-noy. But there seem to be one thing that his administration is not addressing, and that is the continued appreciation of the Peso. His economic managers may insist that the appreciation of the Peso is a good sign but for me, the appreciation of the Peso at this time is not good. It will substantially affect the competitiveness of our export products and our BPO's. Additionally, it has substantially reduced the Peso value of the OFW remittances. In fact some of them have already defaulted on their housing loan amortizations which, if not addressed may result to real estate bubble burst. The combined exports, BPO's and OFW remittances is almost $100 Billion/year (almost 50% of GDP as of 2011). If the Peso appreciation is not addressed, this will substantially reduce the GDP growth that you are aiming at.
I have always been an advocate of a fixed-rate regime, and I am looking at P45/$1 as the best fighting rate for the country. Maintain this rate at least one year and adjust (lower or higher) every year thereafter. A fixed-rate regime will be more advantageous to the country. It will stabilize and keep our exports and BPO's competitive, at the same time make a lot of OFW's happier. There are so many who are against the fixed-rate regime, but if you examine the backgrounds of these people, most of them are into financial businesses who make money through currency speculations. They are not exporters, or working in BPO's or they do not have relatives who toil in other countries just to send dollars to their love ones in the Philippines. Mr. P-noy, the majority of your "bosses" will benefit more if the exchange rate is fixed at P45/$1. I have assessed the advantages and disadvantages of this rate vis-a-vis the savings from imports and USD debt service reduction as against the exports, BPO's and OFW remittances, the benefit is more of the latter rather than the former.

Great Speech but leaving out the progress or the lack of progress on the Ampatuan Massacre cost you an Excellent rating in my vote. It would have been great to pressure the courts to get this thing moving. I can't believe such a brazen crime is still pending justice.

Mr. President.... Congratulations. Your speech was well-crafted, and your delivery, captivating. I could not believe that the speech was about 90 minutes long! Content-wise, it was detailed and the speech spelled out clear, realistic, and measurable goals. Well done, Mr. President and continue the good work.
PS: Somehow, I think that you are already counting the days when you step down. BTW, people like me may need help come election time to choose someone who will continue the kind of governance you have shown us. We will look for your leadership as you prepare the next guy for the role. Best of luck to all of us.

This president SONA is what people want to hear...this is great! BUT hearing alone will not improve the life of common people. I know it takes years and years before everyone feel the effect. The problem lies when government change hands....their is no CONTINUITY!
