There are clearly too many commercials, which marred the opening ceremonies. From the first night of coverage to date I have been unable to watch the nightly recaps because there is too much jumping from event to event, many of the announcers are too exuberant and there is too much ambient noise. I have used the iPad app and enjoyed some tennis but it was like watching a slide show. Perhaps because I never watch anything live anymore, I am too accustomed to fast-forwarding but I have been muting commercials for years and ignoring them completely in the age of the DVR. It was also disappointed that NBC Nightly News spent a week promoting the Games during their 22 minute newscast, further degrading the opportunity for coverage of actual news (short of Richard Engel, I must say). This week I switched to recording the CBS news for my nightly fix of headlines before watching Rachel Maddow and then reading the papers. I now use the NY Times daily digest of the Olympics to stay informed. I will record and watch the closing ceremonies.
