Believe it not, LA Times (etc), there were athletes from other parts of the world, not just the USA and a few token Jamaicans ...

The decathlon demands the most all around effort in 10, let me say for emphasis 10, 10 diverse events in 2 days. It is the most most grueling and draining experience. Giving special notice to swimming, the marathon and gymnastics in that order. But the decathlon and the marathon were always the heart of the Olympic games. I'm appalled that the Games have been diverted away from these as central by the glitz and glamor the media have attached to the 40 second sound byte of two short events and the falsely inflated egos they produce.

I voted for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies. The sport is common to every Olympics but the ceremonies are very much the design of the host country. The British surpassed themselves with their style, ingenuity, humor, and of course self deprecation. What other country in the world is so comfortable in its own skin that is prepared to poke fun at itself on the world stage?

Bravo London. Bravo Britain. You're still Great in my eyes.

I voted under 'Other' specifying 'Women Athletes' (in general) because this year they are the 'stars' of the Games in a wide range of events & have in all but a few--virtually 'stolen' the focus of the Games away from the men-contributing 2/3rds of all participation in these Games.
Also-Bravo's all round to men & women refugee's & families-both to Britain's & U.S. shores- who triumphed either literally --or by placing or otherwise doing well against all odds!
    BRAVO UK/LONDON! A GREAT Games!!
