The southend fire station is old and needs replacing.
This station is one of the oldest in king county.
Many new stations during new construction are built with newer and safer building code requirements to keep fire fighters safe such a seismically, apparatus exhaust and EMS requirements for personal exposure safety.
Also as years have progressed fire equipment has gotten larger and OSHA/WISHA requirements have changed.
Next time your driving around different cities note the new technology and new fire station cities have provided their firefighters.
