What do you think of the decision?

This is ideology carried to an extreme. The money will simply be spent somewhere else. The ideological battle was fought in Congress. Now Spotsy had a chance to gain a nice side walk, about 20+ man-years of jobs. I hope whichever municipality does get Spotsy's share sends a nice thank-you note!

Rejecting federal funds in an attempt to prevent a federal agency from spending it is patent foolishness. That money will be spent regardless of the supervisor's decision not to accept it. Now, however, that money will be spent elsewhere while the county comes out of pocket for the sidewalks. How much easier would it have been to balance budgets or end up with a surplus if the county received and extra million dollars?
It bears pointing out that federal money is our money too. I pay federal income tax, as do most of the other folks in the county. The supervisors refused to accept the currency of its own citizens simply because of a foolhardy belief that this action will change DC politics. Guess what. It won't.
Fiscal conservancy is rooted in doing the best job you can with the least amount of money. We had an opportunity to increase the county's "least amount of money" by over a million dollars and we turned it down. That's not fiscally conservative. That's politicking. If the supervisors are really tired of DC politics then they should quit playing them with our money and do what is best for the county.

We have VDOT paving a portion of Gordon Rd that will be widen between Harrison Rd and Salem Fields. I think that is a waste of money and irresponsible fiscal responsibility. If the Federal governmant offers you money to help improved the county take it! I think you would increase my taxes so that you get your sidewalks so if its free trhen use it because someone else somewhere else will use it!

Fiscal responsibility has got to start somewhere. Kudos Spotsylvania. Make sure your objection is heard.
