Highland Areas: Rocky cliffs and hardened people. Tall castles and brutal warlords (eg: Scotland)
The Underground: Drow, Mindflayers, Duergar (eg Salvatore, Underdark Campaign)
Country Sides & Forests: "classic" fantasy. Castles, towns, gnolls, orcs, and goblins.
Swamps: Lizardfolk, Black Dragons, difficult terrain and poisons (eg: Forgotten Realms, Cresswell)
Deserts, with mummies and lizards and heat stroke rules (eg: Dark Sun, Dust(?)
