Which superhero is greater?

Superman is unrealistic. He seems to develop new powers each decade (just to make him look cooler). Batman is more easier to relate to. He's more realistic idea of what a normal human can with the right training and pure will.

I choose Batman coz i love JOKER

  • Catwoman86 - 12 years ago

    Batman is the best, PERIOD!

  • D - 12 years ago

I agree. Batman is not a Superhero. As much as I love Ironman, he is not either. Batman to me is more comparable to Inspector Gadget. The fact that this site has him in a fight with Superman is laughable. Superman can fly in space and shoot a beam down and end this. Or just fly Batman in space and leave him. There are very few heroes Batman would REALISTICALLY last in a fight with.... All feelings aside be HONEST

    I Love Batman!
    Superman is too lame!

  • Virginia Escobar - 12 years ago

I beleive that Superman is the greatest superhero out there. He was brought in as a Superhero and his disguise is Kent Clark to bled in as a human being and he a superhero. Batman in the other hand was a human and dressing up to be a hero just like other "superheros" out there.

I Love Batman, he's the best!

Seals, I believe that Dennis is saying that there were others before Superman. The Shadow is considered to be a superhero which means that Superman is not the first.

  • Seals - 12 years ago

Dennis..... REALLY. Batman May 1939. Superman June 1938. Get your facts straight. Superman was the first.

  • mike d - 12 years ago

I have to go with Superman. Batman has his merits but Superman is better not because he has superpowers but because he is more resourceful and because even he was less powerful(carving mountains instead of pushing planet) plus the fact even when things like kryptonite, red sun, etc is involved he knows how to overcome. And more reasons.

  • Dennis - 12 years ago

Superman was not the first superhero. If we are to consider Batman a superhero then the Shadow predates Superman by a few years. If we are saying Super powered heroes only then Superman is still not the first.Mandrake the magician had a mystic/magic power of mind control and he predates superman as well.

Batman uses violence and fear against the cold hearted criminals that would harm the innocents. He is a dark figure with lots of stealth and high tech gadgets that can easily be used to bring Superman down.

  • billybro85 - 12 years ago

you said it batman protects gotham. superman protects the world

  • Suua P. - 12 years ago

Superman has more fans? Yeah right. Batman lives in the real world where there is no need for superpowers and he has to face some of the deadliest supervillains of Gotham. Alot of fans love him more because he dressses up as a bat to place fear in the criminals who would hurt the innocence. Fear is like his middle name because he uses it alot. He protects all that is good and the good of the people from those who would threaten and destroy it. Gotham City is like the world we live in and he's just an ordinary man who does everything he can to protect others from harm.

  • bilbro85 - 12 years ago

RELATE RELATE RELATE lets get serious batman has nothing on superman physically mentally moraly and superman has more fans. this was a poorly timed poll for ew you release it a month after the last batman movie when there hasnt been a superman movie in 6 years and there wont be another for a year release this poll again next june and i bet there will be a very different result and dont act like people cant relate to somebody who gives them selfs selflessly to theWHOLE WORLD they dont just get caught up in there little sector of the world he could have been the worst thing to happen to the world instead he made a moral decision that batman never had to face, batman never had that power. also when it comes to the origin story nothing can top superman. he is the epitomy of what every person should try to be. this whole poll was a total misfire.

  • Suua P. - 12 years ago

Superpowers is just a fictional thing. Alot of people can reltate to Batman because he's a regular human being with hardcore, Martial Arts, fighting skills and super hightech gadgets. Any fans can create their own gadgets and take a Martial Arts class (Kung-Fu, Karate, Tae-kwon-do) and could relate to Batman more. Forget the multi-billionare thing. Anyone could manage welding, science and mechanics and be more like Batman. He's more the street smart kind of guy, the ability to read people because of his detective skills, and alot of people have that thanks to alot of the movies and tv series that have come out! That's how Batman can reltate to people more.

  • JP Cureton - 12 years ago

Superman, hands down. The Bat is great, especially considering all he can do without powers. Highly trained , highly intelligent and extremely focused. Will always make a decision based on whats best for the greater good , and has stopped superman using kryptonite when he had to. But when he got superman's powers he went darkside , and it was superman who stopped him without his powers or batman's gadgets , but with his compassion, which the bat doesnt have.

  • Adam - 12 years ago

C'mon at least have the updated costume for Supes, that alone could probably sway some votes. The exterior underwear is such a dated look for any superhero now.

  • Cocoro - 12 years ago

Which superhero is dumb ?? ... SUPERMAN !!!

  • GreenLantern57 - 12 years ago

If Batman is not a Superhero, then why have him on the list of superheroes? The Punisher and Iron Man don't have superpowers either, so why have them on the list too? What is the point of having Batman in the final round if he's not a Superhero? He went up against Wolverine during this match and he won. Maybe Wolverine should have won instead and maybe he would be better in the final round.

  • lois lane - 12 years ago

yeah, if it weren't for the batman movies, we all know who would be the winner. hollywood is your demon superman :(

and, people, are u serious? batman? read some comics first and then vote.

  • Necrow - 12 years ago

Who is the human being that Superman feared the most? There, u have the answer already !!

  • Onemanc - 12 years ago

There can only be one winner considering only one of them is actually a superhero and the other is a man in a costume with some gadgets :-)

  • Truthteller - 12 years ago

Superman definitely would be winning this if not for the Nolan movies. There's just no way Batman could ever beat superman, even with his "technology." There's a whole page on I think comicvine.com that shows superman outdoing batman in almost every confrontation the two have had. Batman truly isn't even a superhero for the right reasons. He only does it all for "Vengeance." Superman does it because he believes it should be done. He doesn't do it in revenge. Also, Superman was the First Real Superhero, really. Batman likely wouldn't exist if not for superman. I mean think about it, when you hear "Who is the greatest Superhero?", do you think of a flying, super powered defender, or a smart detective with neat gadgets? Batman should not be #1. He should be alll the waaaay at number 2. :)

  • Rob - 12 years ago

I voted for Superman because he was the first and is kind of person that people in real life should be like even without the powers specialy at these times. Both are great but Superman is a symbol.

  • MarcusStrong85 - 12 years ago

I vote for the Batman because he's not as vulnerable as Superman is. He may not have superpowers, but he does have supergadgets. He is not fast or strong as Superman, but he does have Stealth. He's really dark and can easily hide in the shadows.

  • TheLastSon - 12 years ago

Ok loved both characters from childhood,Batman is a cool superhero even though nothing is "super" about him. No powers at all, Rich, very smart, possibly world's greatest detective, billionaire, orphan just like Supes. If it comes to it, Batman with prep can beat anyone, and I mean anyone..... With that being said, my vote is for Superman, not only like it says, anything you can do, Superman can do better but the reason being is the world is dark now....we need a beacon of hope, light etc....the basic human goal of compassion, pro life etc, not trying to sound stupid, even though some will say, anyways my two cents.

SUPERMAN!!! Superman gave birth to the superhero genre. He was the very first superhero ever created. If it wasn't for him, we wouldn't have any superheros in the first place. He inspires other people, including other superheros like Batman. Even though he is a alien from other planet, he was raised on Earth for most of his life. Batman himself said that Superman is the most human of us all.He is the example of the capable goodness in us all. Not only was Superman the first comic-book superhero but as well as the first superhero to have his own movie. He later gave birth to the superhero film genre. Out of of all the superheros, He is the most iconic and recognized in the world.

  • Clearyly Obvious - 12 years ago

Superman. Period. I can't belive people REALLY think that Batman could beat Superman in any way. Honestly. Stop lying to yourselves please. It is simply ridiculous.

  • trebor - 12 years ago

Love both Superman and Batman for different reasons. Stop the popularity contest though, and the so-called “cool factor” in evidently many people’s perspective, and Superman is hands down the greatest super hero ever. Superman beats everyone from both DC and Marvel's universe. The fact that he chooses to do 'good' with his powers and that his heart is motivated to act as such is what makes him greatest. Superman powerless would be moved to act the same way. He is truly the most heroic character in the truest understanding and meaning. To speak of the article’s comparison, Batman's goal is to install fear while avenging. Superman's goal is to instill hope while protecting and saving. Both characters can cross over to an extent into each other’s mission and tasks, but ultimately Superman is the light. He is the good of people, the good of society, wanting to help and protect first.

Superman can sit in the air and snipe with his heat vision, and can throw plains or knock builds down and squish him. batman has a green rock, where superman can make it show from a distance . batman might be able to fight but superman is smarter.

  • Rex Banner - 12 years ago

Superman is a symbol of inspiration who's transcended the comic book world and has become a role model for the entire planet for the last 70+ years. Other than maybe Mickey Mouse, no fictional character has ever reached that level of iconic status around the world. There is no comic book industry without Superman and he will ALWAYS be the standard that which all SUPERheros are measured. As utterly cool as Batman is, he'll never reach that status. Batman's goal is to beat up crime whereas Superman can knock out the bad guy and then inspire him, the reader and the rest of the world to be better. Also when you're talking about ALL TIME, remember that Superman was unrivaled as the greatest AND most popular character in the world for his first 40 years of existence. There was a time in the 60's where Batman was so down in the dumps that they considered killing him off when his comic books were being outsold by Superman's Girlfriend Lois Lane and his character never really rebounded until Frank Miller's Dark Knight Returns in the 80's.

  • craig bates - 12 years ago

Gotta be Superman, as a superhero by definition has to have some sort of power and as where Batman is cool he aint no superhero, he is a vigilante billionaire with plenty of cool gadgets and he IS a hero just not a super powered one, but Superman has always been my favourite.

  • Catwoman91 - 12 years ago

Batman's the true hero here. He is more realistic than Superman.

  • Suua P. - 12 years ago

Batman has more stealth and more high tech gadgets. He could manage to bring the Man of Steel with such technology. The Dark Knight is the Greatest Superhero of All Time!

  • Scott Pittman - 12 years ago

For me, there is no doubt that Superman is the better hero. A hero is someone who inspires others to be better versions of themselves. Many people fault Superman's authenticity or likability as a character due to his vast array of powers and, as such, his inability to connect truly with people. There is no risk to him when he rescues kids from a burning building so he's not much of a hero. Those who argue this point miss the character that has developed over 75 years. Superman would attempt to rescue those kids - powers or not. His character embodies everything that we as a society strive to be. Batman is the easy choice. As society is crass - his character is crass and appeals to the people we are - not who we should be. When Batman pummels a villain - we wish we were pummeling the villain instead. He is our surrogate - beating up the bad guys in the world that we cannot. I suspect there are few people (if any) who would argue that Superman's "message" is without flaw. Be all you can be. Use the gifts God gave you to help others. Look at the best qualities of others rather than their worst. Forgiveness is a virtue. Violence is not always the answer - there can be a better way. Treat the world as a community of interconnected souls. Embrace the light..don't hide in the shadows. When you see injustice speak out and be.a beacon for all to follow. Is there really a need for debate as to which is a better hero?

  • Jeff Martinez - 12 years ago

That was a very nice comment from Jerome.

I chose Superman. The first comic book i bought was the "Death of Superman", after that I just got hooked with the story of this alien from the planet Krypton who was sent to Earth to save him from his dying planet. Of course, I knew Superman before that, who doesn't? He is the most iconic super hero of all time!

As mentioned in the previous post, Batman is also cool, especially in the comic and JLA series where he is almost as intelligent as Luthor. However, Batman is a realist, he will do whatever is necessary in order to achieve his goals. He has his own morals to guide him, which sometimes is not the most ethical of choices.

Superman on the other hand while known to represent the "American Way" does not only represent America. For fans like me, he represents humanity itself. He represents the good in everyone, and the best of what we can be as humans. He is not bound by any religion, but his morals are the highest a man can ever have. He does not look at people and see colors or ethnicity, but see them equally as people. He is incorruptible.

I voted for Superman because in my heart, if he inspires us, and humans thrive to be more like him (not the superpowers of course), in his morals, values, and sincerity. This would be a much better world to live in.

  • Babagranny - 12 years ago

Obviously it is a generational thing. Superman didn't need no stupid car to get around. Or help from some hero-worshipping, boot-licking kid. Not even a butler.

  • Jerome Newland - 12 years ago

(Continued) who cared about the characters development as well as sales. But, I believe we have amongst us, superheroes that you never hear about because they work covertly. And the familiar ones of our service members, firefighters, police, EMT's, doctors and nurses. Who else would go to war without invulnerability, or into a burning building. Who else would stop a car and without x-ray vision, approach without knowing if there's a gun or ID waiting for the officer who stopped them. Also the "death-stealers" those emergency and other trained health professionals who treat everyone equally and without prejudice.

And everyone who stands up and speaks their mind, at the right places, like the polls. Or letters to the editor, or just a friend who will listen. Instead of vigilantism, stand for "Truth, Justice, and the American Way."

A special salute to our armed forces still fighting overseas. We are still with you and you remain in our prayers. God Bless America

  • Jerome Newland - 12 years ago

I think mostly that Batman has been the same throughout his tour. A costumed vigilante who is a protector and a realist. He sees crime in black and white with no attention to whats causing the crime.
Superman has changed unfortunately over the years. His killing of the three Super Kryptonians in another dimension was the start. But then it went on to Movies and TV. Sleeping with Lois Lane in Superman the Movie, and then at the end he somehow makes her forget. In doing so he fell down to earth and became mortal. A man getting a girl pregnant than leaving her. And it didn't stop there, on Smallville on season or episode I don't know, but I think 2nd, season. Clark Kent (Tom Welling) and Lana Lang (Kristin Kruek) supposedly had sex in the Kent's barn. I stopped watching after that.

Wayne used to call Clark, the "big blue boy scout" which doesn't mean he respected him. I think Batman is only friends with Superman because they are on the same page one the one crucial portion of their relationship. Catch criminals, protect the public. Otherwise, I think Batman would believe the wrong guy got the powers, and that he could do a better job with them. It would frustrate him to no end if he weren't the realist he is.

I believe people are voting for Batman, because he is now the example of whom they wish to be. So much anger over political corruption, loss of cohesive family commitments, higher gas prices, bank bailouts, and it goes on and on with no end in sight. Some people are fed up, they are taking their gun off the shelf and shooting friends and strangers alike. Batman never had a gun but he had an outlet for the rage of losing his parents, coldly gunned down in front of him. He struck back, and continues to do so safely in colored print.
But people are willing to follow a leader who is going the way they are going. People want to get control over the forces around them that are impacting their emotional judgements everyday, Batman could do it, why can't I? The shift from reality to fantasy isn't hard for those who feel they have been bulldozed by "them." Whether persecuted, ignored, pushed down, or shut up, by people who are no better, and often worse, then the victim. Can go too far and a personal episode as a vigilante starts to form, and one day explodes into action often with the revenge by the vigilante, and his final escape in death by others.

I chose Superman, and it wasn't a hard decision. Reasons: Clark Kent is a guy I could be friends with. Billionaire Bruce Wayne is too high socially, and to unapproachable in his costume. Superman stops chaos, Batman goes with it. You can be absolutely certain Superman won't kill you, you can never have that certainty of feeling with Batman. Though Superman is the Man of Steel, inside he is still a Kansas farm boy. Batman isn't invulnerable, but he tries to make himself that way by avoiding human contact and emotions. Superman wants to join and be a part of the human race, Batman, not so much. Superman has ethics and a consistent (when not tampered with) idealistic approach to life that all of us could use these days. Batman has ethics too, but they weren't taught to him, so they are solely his own.

I was in the Boy Scouts as a child, it wasn't a bad place to be, and color was never an issue (though nobody was blue). Superman acts in the light (transparent), Batman in the dark, (covert). Batman would lie to you if it served his purpose, I don't think Superman would. When it came to disasters I think all the Justice League-rs would go to assist and comfort, and leave Batman minding the store.

I am 58 years old, remember 10 center's before they moved to 12 cents. I've watched movies and serials about both characters, plus the comics. I remember the death of Supergirl, in the first crisis, made me cry I was so into them. Death of Robin Similar. Death of Superman, similar. These were childhood friends, inked and worded by people who cared about the m
