I use Thunderbird as an email client with gmail set on IMAP. It allows me to access mail from anywhere on anything and all mail is forever (at least as long as Google doesn't go TU) on the server. I would use the web interface exclusively, if I had high speed, but unfortunately I live in the third world (rural Eastern Ontario) and high speed is not an affordable or stable option).
