I have a 3 year old nephew who isn't even aloud on the front porch alone. But having so much land we don't have fenced in yard. And although we know all of our neighbors, we just don't trust his decision making at 3 years old. Maybe at an older age but as of now we still like to keep an eye on him.

It is ok to let them outside at a proper age. That's another parent technique just like "let them play on their own" and "let them handle and fix their problems".

My kids were incouraged to play outside everyday, however they had to stay in the fence until the age of twelve.I believe it's better then having them in front of television or vidio games...

My neighbor and i let our 6 year olds play outside. We live on a dead end street and we ave 7 first graders on our street and they all play together outside. And we don't sit out there but go out here and there to check on them. It's okay if you know all your neighbors

My stepdaughter is 7. She plays outside, in the fenced in back yard, while I am in the kitchen. This is the first year we have allowed her outside alone.
