The whole ideal of "the one" is horrible and debilitating. "If I don't make THIS work, THAT'S IT! IT'S OVER FOR ME!!" No one wants to be alone because the world makes you feel like you are a loser if your are not in a relationship. You see plenty of people in a merry go round of relationships, chasing mates so they don't have to focus on themselves.
And oh, yeah. I thought about this advice my older cousin gave me (that still I forget from time to time) about paying attention, spending time with and understanding the person your with at the time. He tells me about these young guys who get married and then say "Man, suddenly my wife just changed on me, she's CRAZY". She didn't just go "crazy", the "crazy" was there the whole time, you just chose to ignore it in the "honey-moon" stage when you were fucking all the time, and didn't want to mess that up by bringing it up. Something like that...
