I was a smoker and quit for many reasons but the inconvenience of smoking was one of them. The more hassle it is to smoke the more people will quit. When you smoke you don't realize how awful the smell is to a non-smoker. Now, walking through the haze of smoke when I'm on Pearl St. or attempting to walk through the gaunlet of smokers outside a restaurant I'm reminded of how thoughtless smoking in crowded public places really is. I know, there's nothing more obnoxious than an ex-smoker but I'm glad I quit and I wish everyone that wants to quit could.

Well, they discriminate against you every day. You can't go to the store naked, you can drink a beer in the park, and you can't take you dog to the mall. There are many things that you can't do in public and private places either by simple rules or actual law.

Nexus,
I have left restaurants that I was considering eating at due to the fact that smokers are at the door smoking and I would be forced to go through that to get a table. To me that is discriminating against non-smokers. Sometimes the health of others needs to be considered more important that someone's choice for pleasure.

I don't smoke, nor do I care for the habit. However, nobody owns the air we breathe. You cannot ban someone from smoking outdoors. I can understand the concern for second hand smoke, but outdoor public areas are big enough for you to walk away. I would not like to shop at any outdoor area that discriminates against anybody for any reason.
