To be a really good parent none of the focus should be on you. I dated a man long distance for 2 years. My son at the time was 7 years old. Never did I bring this man into his life. His mom and dad were already divorced and that was sad enough. Then to bring another man into his live that might not be there for the long haul would have been so confusing and heartbreaking for him. We did eventually marry and when I would tell stories of things that we had done together my son would say but momma you didn't know him then. When he got old enough to understand I told him that his stepfather and I had been dating then and that I loved him so much I would never have brought a man in front of him unless he was the one. I told my son that I did that for him so that if it ever happened to him he would care enough about his child to do the same. They are already devastated why put them through more pain.
