Do you think that Dr. Turkle's premise is correct?

Great post -- I completely agree with Dr. Turkle, and have been witnessing this communication breakdown for several years now, especially among young people. That's why I have refused to get a smart phone, and I have only sent 3 text messages in my life. I do not allow phones to be used for texting in my home (my young guests must keep the phones off when they visit me) and I speak up and express my distaste for those who start texting while they are supposed to be having a real conversation with me.
And it really is very sad--my local high school actually offers a mandatory (I think it's mandatory) class for seniors on how to communicate face-to-face! Technology is wonderful, but I think we're in a lot of trouble if we don't reinforce the importance of real communications with young people.

How about: Turn off the phone and recharge your life!
Recharge your human battery -- Turn the computer and phone off!
Turn the computer off -- and give your human battery time to recharge!
