I MIGHT support mandatory voting if and only if we changed from physical polling stations to a phone voting system. As it stands, poor people in rural areas would be disproportionately penalized for not voting, as many don't have the means (car) to go vote. Further, all employers would have to be compelled by law to allow employees the time to make the voting phone call. Of course, Republicans are terrified of a phone voting system for the very reason that many more poor people would vote - Democrat.
