    @RON

PHILL WASNT ASKING FOR THAT, THOSE WERE FUCKING RUMORS!

EVEN IF HE WAS ASKING FOR ALL THIS, HE HAS THE RIGHT WHEN HIS NAME IS PHIL JACKSON.
THE LAKERS ARE SO SELFISH I HAVE LOST RESPECT FOR THE OWNERSHIP I CANT WAIT FOR THEM TO GET FIRED (JIM JERRY MITCH) I AM NOT PLEASED WITH THE MOVE, THIS JOB IS FOR PHIL JACKSON AND NOBODY ELSE. PERIOD

Folks, it wasnt a bad move it is too soon to tell but its just that WE LA WANT PHIL JACKSON AND OUR SELFISH OWNERSHIP JIM AND JERRY BUSS AND MITCH ALL OF THEM ARE SO STUPID TO PICK MIKE OVER PHIL. OUTRAGEOUS... And whats even more upsetting is that they made it seem like Phil was guaranteed on the lakers. Its complete Lunacy and i hope we loose this year just so we can fire coach Mike (NOTHING AGAINST HIM) But just to get Phil Jackson back. Other then that, i have a small part of me that wishes for Coach Mike to proove me wrong. Thats me as a Laker Fan.PHil#1

Wow, people are melodramatic about the Lakers. They lose a game and their season is done. They win a game and they're going all the way. They pick up Dwight Howard and they're going 82-0. They pick up D'Antoni and fans are ready to bail on them.

The Knicks and Suns were not on the same level as the Lakers. Carmelo will never get a ring. Nash won the MVP twice with Phoenix because his team would have been a joke without him. Now he has a lot more to work with.

I'm sure D'Antoni is aware that the Lakers have a different skill set from what he's used to. Give him a chance to adapt.

This move further demonstrates that Jim Buss does things "his way." He distanced himself from Phil Jackson and purged Jackson's disciples from the organization, despite the fact that he's led the Lakers to its best run since Showtime. Now, with an opportunity to bring him back for a two year run (the same amount of time Kobe's got left on his deal), he goes with this chump who's proven he can't take a team to the finals. So Buss is telling us that he believes D'Antoni is the right might to coach these Lakers to the promised land?! Ask knock fans how his last run as a coach went! The window of opportunity for the Lakrs to win is closing, and D'Antoni's style is predicated on moving the ball up court in an uptempo style. Last I checked, Nash was pushing 40, Kobe is in his 17th year, World Peace isn't exactly James Worthy running the break, and Gasol and Howard are post players. I haven't been this disappointed as a Laker fan in a long time. I can understand the change away from Mike Brown, but going from a defensive coach who can't couldn't run an offense, to an offensive coach who can't stop anyone makes absolutely no sense!! Especially since you have a chance to hire the most successful coach in NBA history. Right now, I'm glad I have Directv and can't watch this train wreck of a season. It won't be long until the fans at Staples Center start chanting they want Phil.

Not sure how the run and gun tempo will fit with all the old legs on the Lakers.
They are a old team (Nash and Kobe).

Horrible decision! I've been a diehard Lakers fan since 1968. Maybe 44 years is enough. This is pretty bad. It has been a good run for the Buss family, but the Jim Buss era sucks. Just wait? Yeah, right. Where's the evidence that Jim Buss knows what he's doing? I see the damage, but no evidence of competence. Jerry, give Jim his trust fund, but don't give him the Lakers. Please?

  • What a Bad Decision.!! - 11 years ago

THE LAKERS BLEW IT HIRING THIS LOSER.! ITS OVER FOR THE LAKERS, IM CHANGING TO THE CLIPPERS FAN BASE THEY ARE A WINNING TEAM AND HAVE A BETTER CHANCE OF WINNING THE PLAYOFFS.

    Go Clippers!

  • Bob Garcia - 11 years ago

I've been a laker fan since 1966! I think Phil's resume speaks for itself! "Dan Toni" hasn't done $#&! I think I'll start following the Clippers! Nice move LAKERS!

Come on?!! The guy who got run out of NY for sucking too bad or the greatest of all time? This is one of the most incredible no brainers of all time. Not to mention disrespectful, ungrateful and a load of other adjectives to the fans, to Phil, to Kobe, to Magic... This was the Buss's giving the ego bloated finger to everyone who matters most to the Lakers franchise. I'm disgusted.

We will have to wait and see.

We'll just have to wait and see how this all plays out. I like the arguments about Jackson demise last season. But then again he did not have a defensive specialist like D Howard nor did he have a cerebral PG like S Nash. Buss should have gone back to the well with Jackson. D'Antoni (did I get that right) has yet to win anything at that level, unproven in that department and has shown no prowess on defenses.

I think it's a good move. In today's game of speed he will expect more from a slow offense like the Lakers. Many of the teams like the Timberwolves and Miami win with fast open breaks while theLakers are slow getting back on defense. The Lakers "show" has always been based on speed and hopefully we'll get there with D'Antoni.

I like the move, first of all the Lakers have a two year window to win the championship, only 4 members of this current team knows the triangle inside and out. We tried this move with Phil in the last year of his initial run with the Lakers by bringing in Karl Malone and Gary Payton, both of whom were lost in the offense and only flurished when the watered down triangle offense was not in effect. Phil's teams do not win in the first year and certainly without additional players who know the offense. That being said, having D'Antoni here to run the offense (This team has better defensive players than either of his two previous teams combined) but a good defense. We bring back showtime (Morris will flourish in this offense) and still have a defensive presence to stop teams. This also allows us flexibility to make off-season or in-season trades much more easier. The only in-season successful trade we made during Phil's era was Pau Gasol. Anything was better than the lost look of Mike Brown and his offense.

  • King - 11 years ago

I agree with Ron. But also I don't want to hear anymore about not making trades because of triangle offense. All four of our stars can shine with D'Antoni plus Jamisonand Meeks can now be productive and help our bench.

  • Ken Myers - 11 years ago

I love the hire because it proved all the so called "experts" and the Bristol Community Clown College aka ESPN and their sources wrong.

  • joseph f - 11 years ago

it's too early to tell. after reading the article it's hard not to become bias against d'antoni.
let's see how it plays out. regardless, the lakers will be fun to watch.

  • Ron - 11 years ago

Sounds to me like Jacksons demands were ridicules....by the way Jacksons last year they choked ....again....Lakers made the right move.

  • izzym1421 - 11 years ago

come on! D'Antoni has yet to lead any team to the play offs or championship. Phil will always be the better coach for the Lakers. Bad move!
