Fantastic article. I'm a woman, considered plus size, and I'm sick of the misapplication labeling fat women as curvy. I'm a former curvy tomboy who gained weight due to sedentary lifestyle, bad eating habits, and sedentary lifestyle. Lets be honest about obesity instead of trying to pretty up bad health. The same thing goes for fat black men who get a pass for their obesity as well.

Your comparison of Lala and Gabby was dead on. While Gabby is a gorgeous woman, in describing size or physicallness, the two women (she and Lala) should never be compared physically because they're on opposite ends of the spectrum. This is not mean, but reality. I'm sure she's aware that her size is unhealthy. Instead of trying to help her accept her size, help her make healthy changes. I'll never accept when someone says, "she (or he) are genetically obese. They just have to work a little harder. Claim that hard work, not that fat.

I don't care about what looks good or sexy. Physical attractiveness is fleeting. I care about being healthy. If a person eats unprocessed whole foods and has a regular fitness routine and is still a size 24 then ok. However if your a size 0-100 and you are not fit, can't walk up stairs, mor go for a brisk walk....this is an even bigger issue! IMO

    Great article!
Although society has carved out a standard for what people should look like, I believe it's very important to become aware that no matter what anyone else says, you need to take care of your self. Sadly some women feel that taking care of themselves only entails bathing, getting their hair/nails/makeup done, and wearing the hottest fashions. Personally, I believe that if more people would become more active and monitor their diets a little more, there would not be AS many "plus-sized" women. I thought I'd always be on the heavy side---until I became active and scaled back my portions and put healthier foods in my mouth. People labeled me curvy, but I'd let them know they didn't have to be politically correct with me. Call it what it is. I was chunky for my 5 foot 2 inch frame. I loved my size 14/16 body then because it was mine, but I knew I was fat. I love my size 6 body even more---not because someone said it's how I should look, but because I feel like I am more appreciative of my body by taking better care of it. In return my body thanks me. Take care XOXO

I believe that this also go to the other extreme on healthy body weight and images of skinny people as well. When all of your bones are showing are you still just skinny or are you completely unhealthy. What is the term that should be used for someone who is too skinny or is this not an issue and only a concern for someone who is considered overweight.

The problem wih society is that the fashion world has always placed all women into one box. But I must add that usually when the term curvy is used it is used for FAT women. I'm a FAT woman and I would never say that I'm curvy because curvy I'm not. I'm very aware of my size and the urgency to excersice and go down to my normal weight. My frames is for a slender body size. Being overweight is not healthy and women have to take responsibility for their health. Women must work on being healthy, not work on pleasing society. There is a healthy weight for every height and age. I grew up around the fashion world and was quite a fashionista in my teens, however I was a slender girl and never wanted to look like the models around me. I was very much comfortable in my own skin throughout those delicate years when girls are so conscious of the flaws they don't have. I'm fine with who I am but I will never accept to be fat because I know it's not healthy for me.
