Nothing wrong with having a name tag so long as it is first name only, there is absolutely no reason to give your last name and if that is what is being asked then yes I disagree.

Many of our police forces wear name tags. I would suggest that it, the minority, are more concerned about being identified for their lack of courtesy toward the general public.
Is it possible that the security guards are wired with microphones in order that their comments could be verified. If these people are so afraid for their safety, they might be better off in another line of work, but as I stated it is the minority.

"If they act in such a way that would give any person reason to want to act maliciously towards them, they might want to re-think how they are acting as human beings."

Are you people REALLY that thick!??? This isn't a matter of interacting with the majority of law abiding citizens that cross every day. BSO's are talking about the small but real percentage of scum who could come after their families/friends just because of the job itself!

You arrest a member of an outlaw motorcycle gang or seize their goods/weapons/drugs, it wouldn't be unreasonable to think they might have something to say about it. Pedophiles, drug smugglers, violent criminals and inadmissible foreign nationals... BIG PICTURE folks - these are DANGEROUS PEOPLE!

Whether you like to admit it or not, there is a very dark and seedy side to society that most people will never see but that a BSO deals with up close and personal all the time; why make it easier for them to be put in harms way just to make a few law abiding travelers feel slightly warmer and fuzzier!??

Spend your afternoon sifting through child pornography on a criminals computer and then tell ME why YOU'RE not all smiles and sunshine for the shopping public.

I think our Canadian Border Guards should wear name tags with their first name only because a lot of them I find have attitudes and think they should not be subjected of treating people with respect. Furthermore, I have noticed on numerous occassions when I have crossed back into my own country at the Bluewater Bridge where they are abrupt, short and at times rude when they ask questions. They don't even say "thank you" or "have a nice day" like some of the border guards in Port Huron when crossing on the American side. Instead of accepting the fact of wearing a name tag with their badge number, they decide to strike and refuse to do their jobs. Shame on you CBSA and get back to work instead of delaying traffic unnecessarily!

There actual name... how about just a badge number. This way they can be recognized at the job but not in the public. I don't see police officers with name tags.
Also, I have to comment on the idea if they treat everyone with respect, everything will be fine and they shouldn't have to worry about it. Say they enforce one of the rules and the driver doesn't like it, now the driver will have a way to retaliate. Lets both lose the stereotypes. The border guards are horrible and the drivers are always law abiding citizen that would never retaliate. The identification takes care of the first, and by just leaving the badge number (and not a name) it will take care of the non law abiding visitors that might react maliciously.

I think they should wear some means of identifying themselves so that they will be personally accountable for their actions at work, but should not be forced to wear anything that could potentially cause harm them or their families. I encounter people that I wouldn't give my name to, why should they have to let everyone know who they are. Unfortunate reality is that some people have malicious intent.

I think that they should be accountable in all aspects of their job, which should include respect and equal treatment of all who cross the border. A name tag or badge number would further increase the accountability of that person allowing any mistreatment by border personal to be reported. As stated by Nicki, "If they act in such a way that would give any person reason to want to act maliciously towards them, they might want to re-think how they are acting as human beings."
That being said, anyone who wears a name tag is at risk for harm these days. Respect is key, if you want to be treated kindly, then treat others kindly. If you want to be respected and not feared, then show respect. A persons actions are directly related to what will come back to them.

Border guards are often the first representation of a country to visitors and citizens alike. I think if they acted decent towards all people coming through Customs, they wouldn't be fearful for their lives or the lives of their families. If they act in such a way that would give any person reason to want to act maliciously towards them, they might want to re-think how they are acting as human beings. US border guards wear name tags. It's a non-issue. Suck it up Canada Customs and just act right.
