If you were a politician and the country were in deep financial problems, would you go on a flashy vacation?

If I were Obama, I'd think twice about taking a vacation. Someone else might be sitting in my chair when I got back.

In information technology organizations as well as other industry organizations there is a mandate that you cannot leave a critical issue unattended. We have teams that work 24/7 to arrive at a resolution. Why? Because this impacts the company's obligation to its customers. So why shouldn't our elected politicians, who are suppose to be working for the people, have this same mandate?
