State Sen. Greg Ball has proposed legislation that would bar the public from learning who the gun permit holders are in their communities. Good idea?

how ironic...this terrible rag vilified folks who exercise their second amendment by abusing the first....Then must fall back on the second amendment to protect them!!!

How idiotic was the controller to do this? You have done more to show the rights, desire and wishes of the pro-gun and have given a tremendous answer on WHY gun ownership is important!!!

Thanks, I'm sure even Ted Nugent is proud!!!!!

I fully support sen. Greg Ball, county executive MaryEllen Odell and county clerk Dennis Sant with their stand. Look at your own poll. You are totally out of touch with your so called community. If people really want this information they can go check for themselves. Loose the NANNYSTATE Mentality.

So very typical of the liberal press in this Country. Responsible gun ownership has come under attack instead of the real problem of the violence that is in our video games, movies, and on television. Not to mention our failing mental health system. Don't go after the real issues here, but go after the law abiding citizens.

As typical, attach the responsible gun owners and put their lives at risk as well as those in those areas who do not own guns or have permits. They become A targets for criminals. This is another irresponsible act of this "so called" newspaper. The law abiding citizens of this Country no longer have any rights or privacy. It is time for Americans to take back our Country and fight against this type of abuse.

Good Luck to the Congressman in getting a new law passed. Such a shame that it takes a law to protect the legal and honorable citizens of this Country.

To the citizens of New York, you need to cancel your subscription to this out of control "so Called" newspaper before they start to publish your personal financial information or worse.

It's truly a shame that as Americans we have become so polarized. It is irresponsible publishing such as this that has helped to bring this about. There is no such thing as privacy anymore. We have lost too many of our freedoms over the past four years. We better not lose the freedom of gun ownership or it may be all over.

The so called journalists are doing nothing but making a very sad situation into a dangerous situation. Now that they are feeling threatened they think about security. Too bad they didn't think about that when they were putting innocent people in danger. If anyone gets because of this, it would be better if it was the journasts and editors that dreamed up this crazy idea.

The world is dangerous enough with out pinning targets on each others backs.

I hope you guys get all that you rightfully deserve for your publication of the names and addresses of gun permit holders in New York. It is quite ironic that you hired ARMED security guards to PROTECT you from whatever threats you feel you face in the aftermath of your bone-headed, socialistic, and arrogant move towards current gun owners in NY. How can you hide behind a gun after declaring, in effect, that guns should be outlawed and anyone who has a gun should be held up for public scrutiny and shame? You are all so hypocritical. You deserve whatever happens and I hope you get it.

i wonder , do the editors think it would be acceptable use of the first amendment freedoms to publish a list of welfare recipients in those counties ?

  • Dave Schoffstall - 11 years ago

Your decision to publish the names of gun owners was irresponsible. Not only have you told the world who has guns, you have told criminals who isn't protected. Also, your decision to hire armed guards is hypocritical. Does anyone in your organization have an ounce of intelligence?

I am a democrat and this media source is an absolute disgrace to the left. I am a gun owner, and people like this are starting to become an embarrassment to the party. Please, journal news, just keep your ignorant mouths shut and stop pushing an idiotic agenda that most of the left don't even agree with despite what you'd have people believe. I will now never support this news source, and I will try my best to make sure others know not to either.

I am glad see to the names and addresses of all employed by the Journal News published as well. I'm glad I do not subscribe but if I did I would cancel on the spot. Very poor choice by this second rate media outfit that hides behind the Freedom of Information Act. "We Have No Brains" should be their next headlines!!

  • Greg - 11 years ago

I was going to unload on the Journal about this but after reading these scathing comments, I don't need to. Let the public speak.

Incredible! Just when I thought the behavior of the left press couldn't get any worse in this country...it has. Congratulations Janet Hason, of the Journal News. You are solely responsible for having no other agenda to afford our police officers who have put criminals behind bars or allowed domestic violence victims now the knowledge that the very person they wish to harm is either with or without protection. You must simply be INSANE or simply incredibly irresponsible. I don't want to hear that you have the right to do whatever you please. You have the responsibility to be just that RESPONSIBLE. Your paper is a piece of trash and as you can see your readers will leave you in droves, and then where will you be? You have shown your left dislike for guns. Well guess what, you felt that you needed those very guns to protect your sorry ass after acting in such a irresponsible manner. You deserve what you get!

So you think it is ok to release the names and address of permit holders. Well by doing so you also show who is not armed. I'm sure the burglars and rapists are in full support of your action. now lets see how many of the non gun owners are accosted thanks to the database of unarmed victims, you supplied them with. By the way can you publish your name so we can see if you are armed? I'm sure there are criminals that would love to see what you got for Christmas.

Who are these media people? We have a right to know everything public about them. Lets find out. Start your search today.

  • Kelly Rudnick - 11 years ago

How cowardly and irresponsible of Journal "News" and Gannett to put the personal information of gun owners and non-gun owners alike on public display. Non-gun owners will make a great target for criminals. It was also very hypocritical to hire armed guards to protect your cowardly selves. Your credibility is precisely what I expected.

The site below offers some great information to return the favor:

The mindless editors of the Journal News have in their liberal zeal put hundreds of non gun owners at risk by alerting burglars as to who might have guns to steal and to who doesnt have guns to rob other things. I expect their will be liability on their part and they better up their liability insurance if a burglar admits to gaining info from the journal's brazen violation of privacy.
I expect that personal information of all sorts will be brought out nationally about those responsible for this mess. The Sandy Hook tragedy could have been lessened or averted if their were armed personnel on school grounds. The Israelis tried gun control and it didnt work . After getting a fifth of the civilian population carry permits the impact of crime and terrorist attacks has been lessened.
Albert Einstein said the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. Like massive tax increases to try to increase revenue, to gun control, and failing to protect the borders, like promoting illegitimate births and single parent families and homosexuality. Madness, sheer madness.

If I were one of the gun owners that had my name and address published by these morons I would find out all of the public information such as addresses, mortgages and hours worked of the so called journalists and post it everywhere I could on the web. Maybe some enterprising criminal would find that information useful.
Mr. Brewer you are correct, these people are idioits.

  • Bob Brewer - 11 years ago

Although I think it's no-one else's business, please publish my name/address as another gun-owner who will protect myself, family & property in self-defense, and welcome anyone's attempts to test that resolve:
    Bob Brewer

PS - You people are idiots.
