Should survivors get a payout?

Why sue the state? Do they really think that the state should have a crystal ball to predict every potentially violent person and take action to prevent action? What is the criteria for identifying a potentially violent person? Especially when that person is low-profile and isolates himself. Would you want the state to invade your home and privacy because someone predicted you might become dangerous? The person in a position to possibly know about the potential for Adam Lanza to become violent was his mother. She should have at the very least recognized that he was at risk and taken steps to secure her firearms in a way that he did not have access. If anyone needs to be sued, it is 1) the estate of Adam Lanza and 2) the estate of his mother. For the family of a student who survived the shooting to file the first lawsuit is disrespectful to the families who lost loved ones and a manifestation of greed. This is just an example of a greedy lawyer ready to exploit a terrible tragedy to line his own pockets. He should be ashamed. The child who is named in this lawsuit will be further harmed by a lawsuit. If s/he hopes to win, it will require reinforcement of the victim stance and proving that s/he will have lifelong damage. It will harm the child more than it will ever help. It's paying a child to remain permanently damaged rather than healing and recovering. It's exploitation and it's wrong.
