I fluctuate between one month and a semester. It is very dependent on the length of the book I'm preaching through. I try to be topical through expository preaching and prep. I try not to be topical unless there is a national or local event that cannot be ignored. I like to reveal the biblical perspective on the event.

What is your process to plan that far ahead?
Let's say you have an idea for March when would you start putting the sermon and creative elements together?
The team I lead is working to plan further ahead on big ideas. The challenge is to develop ideas while implementing the series you are currently in.
