My dad is a Vietnam veteran and my grandfather use to hunt so my mother and father owned a gun. My dad taught me gun safety when I was 8 or 9 years old but I didn't learn how to shoot cause they scared me when they went off. It wasn't till recently that I shot a gun for the first time (I'm 26 years old by the way), but yes if the gun is in the home with a child I say as soon as they are able to distinguish between fiction and reality or right and wrong they can be taught gun safety and how to use one. Kids die more accidentally from thinking it is something to play and if taught early that it is and weapon that can kill you then less accidents will occur.

When I was in high scho0l and in the FFA ( future farmers of America) we had a range day when we would go to the teachers home ;out in the country, during school hours and shoot guns and use bows arrows,make and load shot gun shells, run a green house, judge land and animals , and basically learn "survival skills", its important to learn how to use a gun if you own it or if there is one in the home, you just have to be smart and use common knowledge and not think its a joke. And no i don't live in the country, I live in Winston Salem and i was raised in the projects.

I agree. I think if everyone in the household knew how to operate the gun it would mentally and physically prepare the user for any situation that may arise. Which might help cut down the accidental shooting deaths that happen yearly through gun misuse.

Hell yeah b, if I'm away from my home, I want my wife to be able to defend herself if I'm not able to. When my son gets to age 12, I will teach him how to use it as well, just so that he will not be afraid of them and so he will know about gun safety and what NOT to do with a firearm if he ever has to use one. Gun ignorance can also be a killer.
