Should the Blue Jays rework Darren Oliver’s contract?

A contract is a contract, plain and simple. Oliver wouldn't ask to renegotiate if he had a sub par year would he? His contract was front end loaded (according to reports) at his request, Oliver knew very well what he was signing. What a horrible precedent for AA to start doing; having players expecting to renegotiate after a good year. Sour grapes see ya.

The Jays do not have three other lefties anywhere close to the value that Oliver brings to the team. Oliver signed for one year with an option. He fulfilled his part of the contract by playing for the Jays under the terms of his contract for 2012. The option on his contract was excercized by the Jays, but nowhere in that contract does it say he has to play an additional year for the team at below market value. If his value went up over the period of his contract he has every right to negotiate a fair deal. You people act as though he was on a two year contract and decided bail. Not true. And Mr. Loucks is lucky the NHL lockout is over. He can now return to misfiring neurons on a game that's better suited to his intellect.

Oliver is a great player, but if he doesn't want to be here for the contract he signed, then there's three other lefties that can easily fill his spot in the BP.
