If an 18 year old can vote, defend the nation, or be otherwise treated by the legal system as an adult they should be able to drink legally.

We are a binge drinking nation. We binge drink because happy, sad, lonely, with friends, to celebrate a new live or the passing of an old friend, weekends, fridays, hump days, Christmas, New Years, St. Patrick's Day, 4th of July, Halloween, Valentines, Memorial Day, Labor Day, any random day when something goes really well like getting a new job, loosing a job...get the point?
Our youth have no good role models because it is ingrained in our society. As for the argument of 18 vs. 21, there is overwhelming evidence that is saves thousands of lives by having it at 21. It's the difference of someone almost out of college vs someone still in high school.

Perhaps if parents are able to safely expose their adult child to alcohol they would become more intelligent about the dangers of drinking while there is still a safety net (parents) to make sure they don't make horrible mistake like drunk driving.
To those that think we should leave the minimum drinking age at 21 please explain why an 18 year old can die for his/her country but not have a beer or glass of wine. The age at which they become legal adults and can die for their country should be increased to 21 if people want to keep that as the legal age to drink.
