I agree with the general consensus so far here. I have never understood the concept that one can be old enough to be sent to a foreign country, armed with heavy artillary, and instructed to kill people at 18. One is considered old enough to live on their own and expected to have the skills and tools needed to support oneself at 18 years old. But drink alcohol!!!! NOOOOO!

When I was moving into adulthood, the drinking age in my state was 19. Since I had my own apartment which eliminated needing to be out to drink (who wants to drink in front of MOM and DAD), and I had the freedom to offer friends the couch or floor for the night if they over indulged my living situation eliminate anyone's need to drive drunk.

I also realized that once the taboo was removed, the whole act of having to try to hide it and sneak do your best to not get caught....it lost some of the lure and I couldn't be bothered with it as much as before I was legal LOL.

I found it hilarious that before I turned 21 they raised the drinking age to 21 and all of a sudden I wasn't legal anymore. But like I said by then that lure of doing something taboo was gone.

I agree with Junebug. If you are old enough to die in battle for your country, you should be legal drinking age at 18. That was the legal drinking age when I turned 18 and I lost all interest in drinking when I turned 18. All the fun went out of it.

My thought, if has been from the time I was in the military (20yrs old), that if you are old enough to fight for and dies for this country then you are old enough to have a beer. Also old enough to vote.

Maybe allow those in the military to drink at 18 with a military ID card, on base. Some restrictions.

Maybe if we set it at 25 then theses"babies" that are carrying a gun would not be doing the awful crimes w/guns--maybe waiting until these gun people grow up enuf to "RESPECT" a gun --maybe that would help a little! Putting guns into the hands of irresponsible people IS THE PROBLEM--same w/alcohol & drugs! We are becoming a Nation of "doing it first" and then begging the lawyers to get us out of our mess! The adults of society make the rules & then expect our "kids' to be mature enuf to take on the responsibilty of what the adults have made legal!

If you can serve our Country at the age of 18 and you can vote for the President of the USA at the age of 18 then you should be able to drink legally at the age of 18.

I think if they can go fight for our country at 18 they should be able to drink at 18.

I completely agree with Junebug! Raise the age for serving the country is a great idea.

    Junebug -
I partially agree with you. I think the age should remain at 21. However, if someone has a current military ID card and is on active duty, he (or she) should be allowed to drink alcohol as long as they are 18 years old or older.

If you can serve your country at 18 yrs of age then you should be able to drink legally. So either raise the age of serving our country or lower the drinking age. I vote for raising the age to serve our country. And I thank all that volunteer to serve our country.
