Watched the film last night, powerful, moving but could not relate to Russell Crowe's voice, pity as his acting performance was good. Found Amanda Seyfreids voice too high and warbly, Samantha Barks stood out for me as the star performance, she was able to bring her musical theatre experience in the role to a new height. Overall fantastic amazing film but I still think the stage version wins.

I am a huge fan of the stage version, absolutely love the songs. But after seeing the movie version, I LOVE LOVE LOVE IT! even more. All the actors gave superb performances, even Russell Crowe surprised me ( I had heard such negative reviews) he has a rich, warm voice, that fills the roll of Javert very well. Hugh Jackman was a wonderfully emotional Jean Valjean, his singing full of strength and power. His version of "Bring him home" was not as hauntingly prayerful as Boe or Wilkenson's, but beautiful non the less. But Anne Hathaways Fantine was heart breaking, and honest, and raw, and exquisite. She WAS Fantine. And her singing "I Dreamed A Dream" was the ABSOLUTE BEST I have EVER heard it. This movie takes you from misery to hope and back again over and over, and does it so powerfully that at the end of it all you will be drained emotionally. BRAVO!!!! Don't know off hand the actors name who played Marius, but "Empty Chairs, Empty Tables" has NEVER been so meaningfully sung, well done!
