Jodie Foster, a talented actress, demonstrates how the narcissistic Hollywood elite is completely oblivious to traditional middle American values and to the silent majority of Americans.

For those of you with average intelligence, I'm sure that you were baffled by her speach.

My feeling about it was that it was the most incredible, honest, well spoken, intellectually stimulating speech that I've ever heard out of Hollywood.

I'm 45 and Jodie, you have been my hero all of my life. I wish you would have come out sooner so I could have understood how much more we were really alike, but I Totally get your need for privacy. Good God, you poor woman, I wish you could have had a bit more of a "normal" life, but you've made it, and you are a fantastic role model for myself, and many other two Mom families. I too have a partner, and two beautiful children. It's awesome, and it's not always easy.

So world, how about a little support for the two Mom and Dad families out there. Let us know you care, because we did not have a choice to come into this world straight, just as those that are left handed did not have a choice. Both statistics are approximately 10%, for lefties and gay persons.

Thank you Jodie, thank you, thank you, thank you! I'd love to meet you and your family one day. But not enough to stalk you, ;-)

Congratulations on your well deserved award, and your Awesome speech!

    You're the best,

    Alicia

I think that Jodie Foster is an amazing actress, but I don't feel comfortable about a few things related to her! Most importantly is her association with Mel Gibson, (who I used to like as an actor) a known anti-Semite! I wonder how her publicist feels about that? I wish she just concentrated on her achievements in her speech and left out the innuendos and thanking specific people, knowing she purposefully left out some significant people! She's a bright and talented person, but a bit weird at the Golden Globes!

I thought Jodie had lost it! I got tired of it and changed the station and when I went back to watch, she was still rambling. I have always loved her as an Actress but her 'speech was boring! Turned it off.

These actors forget that this how they choose to make their money. I'm sure she is living in a very comfortable atmosphere. How about the kid on Two and Half Men is said the show was trash now going back to it. Personally, I don't like the show, but that kid made millions on that show. The old saying don't bite the hand that feed you. Even though this is getting away from the Jodie point... she made her money.

Someone please call whine-11, she's never had a problem taking the money, grew up in the industry, knows what the life is like, she made the choice to live that life, deal with it or get out, I'm sure she has made enough money pretending to be other people that she can retire.

The most uplifting part of Jodie Foster's speech was the tribute to her MOTHER! BRAVO!

  • Marjorie - 11 years ago

I thought her speech was so beautiful and touching. Jodie is a highly intelligent and creative human being and if one were only half listening, they might miss her points. Everyone in that room totally got her and was deeply touched by what she said. So, so beautifully expressed and I am glad I listened.

I tend to agree with Rachels assessment. Jodie Foster was being nostalgic and melancoly about her life at this presentation. She probably should not have bared her soul so publically but then too she has earned the privilege to express herself in order to be better understood and remembered. She has proven herself as a first rate actress, has picked her roles carefully and has not compromised herself one bit. I kind of give her credit for sticking by a friend, that she seem to have a fondness for , even though he is contraversial and too opinionated.

How about both beautiful and baffling? Your poll needs to change so people could select "both". There were parts that left me scratching my head and others that moved me to tears. Overall, I thought it was wonderful, especially if it left the rest of those extremely self-important individuals in that room wondering what just happened. Good on you, Jodie!

What part of the word 'privacy' don't people understand - put yourself in her (or any star/public figure) place - would you like EVERY detail of everything you did spread to the entire world? I think not.............And her friendships and sexuality are no one's business but her own - she's not asking you to be a part of her life..........live and let live! The world needs to stop being so judgemental especially when you don't know all the facts! When people have nothing to do but live vicariously thru someone else, they need to get a life of their own!!! She has given of her time and talent for all to enjoy - so enjoy or walk away.

The day no one wants to take their picture anymore is the day celebrities fear the most and do whatever it takes to prevent. No one forces her to be in the business and if she seriously does want privacy I feel certain there are any number of things she can do to earn a living other than make movies. She is, after all, a Yale graduate.

Was that a plea for sympathy or did she imbibe too much at dinner? Strange behavior and today she is recanting her words about retiring. Although she has every right to express herself at her LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD evening, she could have been more gracious , more coherent and a little more humble.

I agree with Rachel, it was more of a rant and she seemed angry but I am not sure who she was addressing. Talented but a strange woman. As for Mel Gibson, I think he needs to shut his big mouth and he won't need to be defended!

  • Geri Goodson - 11 years ago

I was totally shocked by her remarks about Mel Gibson. He is a racist of the first order, and has made his anti-semitic remarks very public, so there is no doubt about where he stands if you are not the right religion and color to suit him. His rants on the phone with his wife or girlfriend, whatever she was, were particularly frightening and violent. Jodi Foster chose a weird time to stand uo for him, and, if she was refering to her sexality, she needed to come out and admit being a Lesbian. It is not a sin or a crime, and nothing to be ashamed of. She was born that way, and need not skirt the issue. I am very disappointed in her.

It is better to remain reticent and be thought an ass, than to open your yap and remove all doubt.

  • Gloria Faure, always loved her even as a child. - 11 years ago

She's a great actress and a person you go Jodi.

  • Angus J - 11 years ago

As a 50 year old woman myself, I totally understand where she's coming from. I don't live my life in the public eye, but the petty and increasingly rude press and bloggers can be and have been cruel to her over the years. Women at our age feel vulnerable, and I'm sure it's worse for an actress whose physical appearance is considered important, maybe moreso, than talent. Perhaps Jodie could have been more succinct in her comments at the GGs, but I'm sure she was feeling a myriad of emotions on that stage. Kudos to her for all her hard work over the years, and best of luck to her in whatever she decides to do next. I, for one, can't wait to see what it will be.

I thought it was a beautiful speech given by somebody that's never had a private moment in her life. It's wonderful that actors are able to do their jobs, some do it very well. It's a shame that the better the star, the worse their lives become because of fame. It does seem that they can be very lonely.

  • Rachel - 11 years ago

It sounded like a rant by someone with disorganized thinking, along with a plea for a distasteful "friend."
