I have been a psychiatric RN for many years. I find it incredibly disappointing that an opportunity to truly discuss this countries inhumane treatment of our mentally ill citizens has been shoved to the side. We don't need a study we need a real fix. First, education regarding recognizing and understand basic simple rules in talking to these individuals many things could be different. Second if we don't acknowledge the issue we can continue to hide behind a phony "gun control". Truth is a real psychotic individual will find a way to accomplish their end.

I briefly looked through the proposals. Where are any proposals regarding violent video games and the affects of sitting in front of the television for hours at a time or connecting through the internet to play a game with someone named "xbox 360" in which you try to destroy or kill the enemy. Our kids are so far removed from reality, that it has no affect on them. I didn't see one executive order to stop or curb the violence in video games and to curb the violence in the "Hollyweird" movies.

Has anyone thought that a major step in gun control and maybe the only one really necessary it making the gun owner control their guns by imposing severe penalities on gun owners if ones' gun/guns get into unauthorized hands and are used in a criminal manner. Report if stolen, inaccessable to unauthorized persons and only sell to an individual that is legally able to purchase......

I don't think the idea was to discuss how to obtain MORE effective weapons. And saying these actions do nothing in "the real world" is just reflexive idiocy. This is a systemic approach, pulling several different levers - INCLUDING THE ONE THE NRA DEMANDED - and the people who 'agree with none of them' are the people who no longer matter. The knee-jerk anti-Obama lunacy is no longer relevant. You've stopped thinking, you've stopped solving, you've just become the foaming dogs in the gutter. None of these "executive actions" has any bearing on anything happening in the real world. They are virtually a smoke covering to make it look like obama has done something positive, when in reality, he has just given the criminals more power to rape, rob, murder, steal and whatever else they get arrested for.
The bigger picture is missing regarding the AR-15 Assualt Rifle. This Weapon has had problems since day one. My company in Waltham, Massachusetts made the Flash Surpressor. To our knowledge the gun always jammed, leaving our fighting troops at risk and unprotected. Congress never fixed the situation and just moved on. My brother who died from Vietnam sustained injuries always complained about his AR-15. He prefered to pick up a used abandoned weapon than to continue with a defective product. In short the tolerances were to tight. The Ak-47 out performs any american automatic or semi-automatic, these guns are made to kill people and thats it. Ban all CLIP type weapons. To review the History is an interesting aspect of the STORY.
