Are GMOs Ethical?

Consider our short growing season. Some GMO seeds and plants help us have more variety of fresh food for longer here. And some things are just kinda neat. Like striped beats, those are neat. I still like regular beats better but the striped ones are kinda fun now and then. Don't get me wrong, I get right bent out of shape with what some monster companies are doing with GMO crops. I think this is a moderation and responsible use thing. I appreciate having super sweet dwarf tumbler tomatoes that grow well on my patio and take up very little space so I can grow more fresh food for me and my family, however I also feel that protecting and continuing to use heritage seeds in incredibly important. Fruit trees and bushes modified to handle colder climates allow us northerners to enjoy something more that apples and raspberries in our gardens. GMO is a tool that can be used to enhance some things but unfortunately it gets used in ways that really harm our societies and our futures as well.

I think this is a powerful technology that we don't understand fully; especially the implications of it on the natural world. This is not a question of morality. We certainly shouldn't let big ag forcefeed it to our population by keeping us ignorant.
